Accepted into VPA, But Would Like Some Input on VPA and Syracuse

I am an out-of-state student (Virginia), got into all the schools I applied to Syracuse, Suny New Paltz, Temple, VCU & Pratt. But so far have only received enough grants/aid to go Syracuse U. (with just a very small yearly loan) or Virginia Commonwealth Univ. with in-state rates. I was wondering if someone(s) could tell me about VPA and Syracuse, I have not had the opportunity to visit yet, but I will be in April. Oh, and my plans are to major in Metal and Jewelry, and possibly Art Education. Would appreciate your input. Thanks.

I suggest posting in [College Search & Selection](College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums), seeing as people around these parts will obviously be biased towards Syracuse :P

VPA has many great opportunities. Often, students don’t apply directly (I’m not sure if you did) and are placed there and end up loving it. I would make sure that you can major in Art Education there since there is a separate school of education. However, as the previous poster said, I am very biased as my D attends SU - but I feel that the school has given her a great education and opened many doors.

Hi Lovethearts13! My daughter was also accepted into VPA and the school of education as a dual program. She wants to major in art education also, but that is not set in stone. She was also accepted to SUNY New Paltz and RIT. We have not visited Syracuse U yet either, we are from CT. My daughter likes the fact that if she studies at SU she will not just be surrounded by “art people” as she thinks she might find that tiring and a university setting offers a lot of choices as far as classes go. We are hoping to visit the school soon also and I would love to hear how you feel about it when you return from your visit. BTW, congrats on your acceptances! Those are some pretty nice schools.

They have a lot of cool things in Art at Syracuse. To the best of my knowledge they are the only school that let the Geology department come down to the Art Department and use their facilities to POUR LAVA!

Yes, you will find bias towards Syracuse here, but the OP is not asking for a comparison, she asking about the feature of our school!
