Accepted Ladies...

Will you guys be going to smith next fall or are you still waiting for other schools? and is anyone going to the accepted student days 4/14 & 4/15?

def still waiting for other schools. am considering visiting around then if i decide there's a high chance i'll end up there...idk how much school i can miss tho, b/c if i fly out east, i'd hope to see some other schools as well...so if not for that wkend, def a visit.

I don't know...I'm still waiting on Barnard and Cornell. I think I might go to either discovery weekend or the accepted students open house, but not both.

when is discovery weekend?

Discovery weekend and open house overlap. Open House is April 14-15, and Discovery is 15-17.

Discovery isa weekend offered for minority students. Smith does something which is absolutely unique (in our experience), which is run Discovery weekend the same weekend as "Collaborations", a full-day of presentations of ongoing student-faculty research, to which the entire campus is invited. Last year there were 170 presentations (we went to two of them) and they were amazing! Smith's idea is that too often in attracting minority students, top colleges put the stress on "minority", rather than on the academic opportunities being offered. So this is their attempt (rather successful, I would add) to make clear that they view minorities as students - and as future scholars - first, and want to offer a full view of they have to offer. It was a very impressive day.

I'm still waiting to hear from other colleges, but I am almost positive I'll be visiting Smith for open campus weekend. I'm planning to fly in Thursday and then fly back home Friday once everything is done.

Are accepted transfers allowed to come to the campus weekend?

You can call the admissions office to find out. I called to see if ED acceptees could go. Unfortunately for me, we can't :(. So I'm just going to visit Smith (again!) anther time during my spring vacation.

Well Smith is where its at next year for me......SMITH 09' BABY!
If anyone else decides to go email me or w/e so we can get to know each other before the falllllllllllllllllllllll....

still waiting for other schools but definitely going to discovery weekend.......

firelu- you can sneak in! My mom and I met an ED acceptee during Open Campus during lunch. Teehee. Give it a try if you have the time.

Thanks ticklemepink! I have been considering it already! But if ED's have snuck in before...;)...my chances are better!!

I'm new here. What's an ED student?

Without more merit aid, Smith is off my list. I was accepted and also invited into the STRIDE program but I just can't afford the cost of the school. Smith is supposedly very good with NEED based aid but not merit. We'll see but most likely I won't be going.

Early decision where you apply early and get notified early. Early decision is binding, if you are accepted you go to that school, you are expected to withdraw any other applications. Some school do Early Action (EA) where you get notified early but is not binding, you still have until may to decide. Smith has early decision I where decisions go out early december and ED II where decisions go out in January. Since ED students have already made their decision, they are not supposed to go to the open campus event which is for students accepted regular decision and are trying to make a decision. That is the theory at least.
