I'm still waiting on a few other schools, but I am totally ecstatic about my acceptance to Pepperdine. My question is, how is Pepperdine for less religious people? I was raised Catholic, and I definitely uphold a very moral lifestyle, but I don't pray on a regular basis or attend church...
Also, I know that Pepperdine is a pretty conservative school. I'm politically liberal/democrat with an intended double major in journalism and international affairs. Will I be okay?

Thank you in advance. I really appreciate it :]

Yes! I'm in a familiar situation. Sadly, one of the things holding me back is my worry about the Religious/Conservative atmosphere. I'm Independent, leaning Democrat, and generally Liberal. Raised Catholic, but don't attend church-honestly, dont like organized religion.

Not a problem unless you are a boozer and love parties.

The campus is adamant about no alcohol. Other than that, you don't even notice they are a religious campus.

Gatherings are fun - especially since people genuinely have fun, and not get drunk and cause trouble. There are plenty of bars and clubs off campus, but the campus is gated and access is restricted after dark.

gwu_girl- Once again, more similarities: Im looking for an academic atmosphere, rather than a "party" one.

Well, I didn't find much room to express my political affiliation. But I must admit, I wasn't that "expressive" about my religious tendencies, or lack thereof... :)

gwu_girl i am looking for the same thing in college so don't feel like you're the only one cause sometimes I feel like I am lol That was a major draw to me to Pepperdine. When I visited there wasn't an overwhelming sense of religiousness really. What other schools are you choosing from?

I'm waiting on decisions from George Washington and Occidental, but these days I'm really leaning toward Occidental. It's probably going to be between Oxy and Pepperdine, granted I get accepted.

Thanks eyebeg2differ.

MV753, it's good to know someone like me too :] The kids I know who attend Pepperdine are also liberal/not too religious, but everyone on CC seems to label Pepperdine as ridiculously religious.

a lot of people on CC seem to say the same stereotypes about Pepperdine all the time. Maybe it's because I really love the school, but when I went, I didn't see any of those stereotypes. I guess it varies on each individual

My D was raised Catholic, doesn't attend church very often:( , leans toward the liberal side philisophically and politically :). She is a senior and has loved Pepperdine. The largest religious denomination on campus is Catholic. Pepperdine does have a Church of Christ presence, but it truly respects individuals beliefs.
She actually enjoys the debate and difference of opinions present on campus.
