I have a 3.3 GPA (4.0 scale) and a 1810 on the SAT (1280 Math/English). I started my first semester as a freshman in high school terribly with a 2.9 but i have raised it up and it hasn't gone down since. I am taking all honors and 2 AP courses this senior year so i think i can finish high school with at least a 3.4. I just applied to Pitt this week so what are my chances of getting accepted? I have two strong recommendations, one from my pre-calc/AP Calc teacher and another from a relative/alumni of pitt who was an academic all-american in football and is listed on pitt's athletic walk of fame.
I put under my 5 activities: Volleyball, other sport, Student Government, Volunteer work, and Music-Instrumental. I plan on majoring in biomedical engineering and hope that it isnt going to be too competitive. So please be honest cause I am having different opinions on if i would get in or not.

I think you have a good chance of getting accepted. What is your math SAT?
Are you choosing biomedical engineering because you want to go to medical school? If so, there are easier, less competitive approaches.

i have a 660 math and i was definately thinking of medical scohool after my B.S. as a career choice, but am not completely sure if i want to do that yet.

So that’s a 660 Math and and a 620 CR? I still think you’ll probably get in but I’m not sure about the biomedical engineering program. If you are not sure about medical school, I’d pick some undergraduate degree that you can make a living. You only need about 60 credits (If I recall correctly) to take the Medcat and apply to med school. Check with your Pitt counselor and I’m sure he / she will advise you of which classes you need to take. Should keep your options open for after you graduate from Pitt. Just my opinion…

well when I toured the engineering building, they said that everyone accepted into the engineering school was accepted as an undecided-engineer, and not until your sophmore year did you choose which area you went in. but thanks for the answers :)

[Undergraduate Admissions - Department of Bioengineering: University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering](http://www.engr.pitt.edu/bioengineering/main/admissions/undergrad.html)
I still think you can get into Pitt, I’m just not sure whether you can get into the biomedical engineering program in your Sophomore year. Either way…good luck.

Uh, idk about this but I consider myself horrible at math and would never consider being an engineer and I still got a 710 in math (my weakest section) on the SAT. Of course I can’t say that all engineering majors were able to manage 700+ on the math section of the SAT but it’s a good goal to aim for.

What math classes have you taken and what grades have you gotten in them?

freshman year i took geometry and i bombed that class i think with like an 80 (dont want to talk about that) but other than that soph i got 96 overall for algebra 2, junior i had a 90 in intro to calculus, and im taking AP stats and AP calculus BC this senior year
