Congrats on Reed, tennisdude! That's wonderful.

Waitlist shuffling can go on quite late into the summer, resulting in decisions that are harder and harder to make. If you are also offered a place at Chicago, you could accept - and lose the deposit at Reed. Or - you could commit to Reed now and tell Chicago to pull you from their waitlist.

Well, my admissions counselor just emailed me; Chicago closed the wait list, and didn't take anyone from it.

Sorry fellow wait listees.

So I'm bound for Reed! And I am tremendously excited! And if I don't like it, my admissions counselor said that Reed > Chicago is a relatively easy transfer! Wohooooooooooo.

Chicago really isn't taking anyone off the waitlist this year? Wow. Any idea if the class was overenrolled? Also tennisdude, I'm sorry to hear Chicago didn't work out, but one of my best friends is going to Reed and has so many great things to say about it.

Hey Quick Question Tennisdude
I, too got waitlisted at Chicago and really want to go there. Did the admissions counselor really tell you that NO one was going to be off the waitlist at Chicago this year? And if so, could you provide the evidence? My email is dxl2316@gmail.com if you want to send anything

I appreciate your continued interest in the University of Chicago
and thus feel all the more sorry to say that Chicago will be
unable to offer you admission from the waiting list. We thank
you for your interest and for your patience.

Our inability to offer you a place in the Class of 2011 is
Chicago?s loss. We can only wish you the best of luck at the
school you will attend.

I should remind you that if you still wish to think about attending
the University of Chicago, we admit 50 transfer students each
autumn quarter. Check our website for information.

i'm on the waitlist, but did not get that email. i was notified of my waitlist status by email, so it is not as if they have a wrong address. does this mean anything?

Nope, no one got off the waitlist this year at Chicago apparently because I got that same e-mail. Gees, who would have ever thought that Chicago, a school with a traditionally low yield rate, would overenroll and become uberwanted by its acceptees this year? College admissions is soooo weird.

When did you hear from Reed and was it snail mail? I too am on the waitlist and am waiting with baited breath for good news. As of today nothing.

Hi Tennisdude - When did you actually get the word from Reed? Was it snail mail? I check my mail every day with baited breath every day for my results on the wait list and so far no celebration. I am so happy for you. Do you have any info on their numbers for the wait list or any other information about wait list matters for this year?

Reed didn't give me any numbers, my admissions guy, Daniel Hagen, just called me. He asked if I was still interested, etc, then offered me a place if I would like it.

I know Reed's numbers for last year were: 12 / 788 taken off of the wait list (788 were offered a wait list spot, and 788 took it, by the way). The odds are not good, I am really surprised that I got in.

I think the only way you'll recieve a snail mail is if they decide to close the wait list. If you get in, there's a pretty quick turnaround. He called me on Monday, May 7. I had to call him back on Tuesday with a yes or no.

I had given up on Reed; I hope everything works out for you, even if you don't get in. Try not to obsess over it. Although, I did. That advice to fall in love with your currently accepted school is a good one. Although I wouldn't know, as I didn't have any accepted schools before Reed.

Good luck man, the wait list is an awful place to be.
