I've been reading the posts here and I want to encourage frustrated waitlisters to appeal in writing if they are really still interested.

My initial waitlist letter said that all I could do was send in my midterm grades.

Instead, I wrote a deferential and polite letter telling Admissions more about myself and some things I'd done since applying that I thought would make me look like a stronger candidate. My HS sent midterm grades in on the Friday before the Martin Luther King/Gerald Ford double header.

My stuff got reviewed by an appeals committee within Admissions.

I got my Carlson admit letter today.

Congratulations!!!!!!

I appealed in the same manner about two weeks ago for CLA. It seems like the way to go.

Will either of you two be attending?

Possibly. I'm going to visit over spring break.

I appealed in December and found out today that I was admitted to CLA off of the waiting list. It's definitely a good move for anyone who is still waitlisted.

Good for you fabalyss21.

So far I've gotten no $$ from UMN so I probably wont be going. I guess the next few weeks will tell.

I most likely won't be either, but it still feels good to be in.

Hm, I didn't know about this appeals process, I might give it a try. But, I'm not sure it's worth it, because out of state is outrageous.

Does anyone know if the U of M has residency requirements, that the person lived in MN for the last 2 years? or what is it?

No, as long as you are a student you will be guaranteed with housing as long as you apply before May 1st. If you haven't applyed you better, cause all the good dorms will fill up.

Appealing is definitely the way to go. I got waitlisted in CLA, but my junior year I was pretty sick, so I had a horrible GPA. I appealed, and got to explain my situation, along with what I learned from it, and I was accepted.

UMN class of 2011!
