Accepted online, Rejected/Deferred by mail?

lolthats actually really weird.

Act-31(with a 35 math)

GPA- 3.4 at top 10 private school in nation(4 AP's and 3 honors classes past 2 years) (3.6 junior year, 3.2 sophmore)

Great EC's
Excellant Rec's
Michigan is my far and away number 1 love it to death

Those are my stats, make any assumptions you want but despite being deferred i see myself as a Michigan Man in the future(moreso then Les Miles and not a Michigan Man the John Beilin way)

Deferred by mail.

stats please?

2340 SAT
2320 SAT IIs

guess how low my gpa is..

you guys are seriously freakin me out...

y7: even with your GPA (which isn't incredibly low, though below Mich's avg), I'm very surprised you didnt get a spot. I mean, holy crap they put a lot of weight on GPA.

gijon- i think your test scores may have played a role in being deferred just because while a 35 in math is ridiculously amazing, some other section must have brought it down to a 31. please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that the amount your test scores vary from section to section matters
you still have a shot though- don't lose all hope :)
and even if michigan doesn't work out i'm sure plenty of other colleges will REALLY like your stats

deferred today by mail =(
so do they wait until the regular deadline like in febuary and tehn review my applicatioin again then
or like when will they review it
things to increase chances?

washu, what are your stats?

wash u: from what i was told a few months ago by my regional counselor, they wait until all of the apps are received in february, and then if they have spots open, they will reconsider your app. so you should find out in march/april. if i remember correctly, you had a very weak GPA. Getting excellent grades (3.85+ uw) this semester will look great in their eyes. if it is your first choice, contact the school and ask them what you can do. retake your ACT for even better results (though a 32 is strong, it def isn't unheard of at UM). Aim for a 33/34. You can do it, and good luck!

im already into wisconsin, but its funny if you combine the three times i've taken the ACT my composite is a 32 with sections as 29, 35, 32, 30. The thing is for me i have two groups of colleges Michigan and everything else. And Wisconsin is tied with those everything else(I need good sports). Also though i do expect to get into michigan eventually.

Also to vc08 my bro was deferred last year and got in on December 20th(a month after being deferred) so it depends on when people get in. There is a large group of deferral acceptances in December because of ED. And then the rest are decided in April and a few in between.

gijonman: i have heard that, but the vast majority of deferred students i've talked to said they found out in april, unless a test score went significantly up, etc. i think if it's only your score that's suspect, they can re-evaluate you once a new one comes in. if it is a grade, they have to wait longer to see if your progress improves, hence an april decision (or so says the ad. officer i talked with). congrats on wisco though, that is an awesome school.

My friend last year got deferred (and eventually waitlisted) from UM but got accepted into Stanford and MIT(I know, wth?). It's a total crapshoot that no one truly understands with deferrals. Good luck guys.

thanks vco8
do you know what percentage of deferred applicants are accepted

washu: i don't, it all depends on the applicant pool, and how many spots are available. they do expect to see improvement though, so they might be a little tougher in second-round evaluations. good luck, what other schools are you applying to?

so far i have applied to
u mich
case western
slu (direct medical program)
u of wisc madison
u of i
and miami in ohio - i also really want to go here! have you heard of it vc08?

i really wanted to go to michigan though=(
looks like i wont be seeing any of you there =(

ahh, dont give up hope, like pistons said, it's a crapshoot. you could just as well get into um in a few weeks, no one knows for sure.

i have a friend who wants to go to miami. a great school with a beautiful campus, from what i'm told. i wouldda thought you were applying to washu though with your username lol.

oh ha
i made this a while ago and back then thats where i wanted to go
however i want to go into medicine and decided i probably couldnt get good enough grades there to be accepted into my dream med school - Johns Hopkins

how does your friend like miami?! ive been dying to know more about it
has he told you anything about it?

yeah im sad about michigan but maybe in the end you never know

my friend doesn't go there yet lol, but she knows ppl who go there and they love it. i know from reading college books it has a very good rep, and you have the scores to get in. good luck!
