Ok, so I'm a senior in Florida looking to go to FSU. I'm dual enrolling all of my classes and this semester and have 6 classes, and I'm close to having straight A's in them all. Next semester I'll have 4 classes, and this is my first year dualing. Last year I had 3 AP classes (which I passed in the final tests with two 3's and a 4) and my GPA right now is a 3.94. I just recently took the ACT and got a 25 which I know I could do better on. My old SAT I received a 1790 total and math plus reading a 1240. I'm going to retake the SAT in February so I can reach the criteria for the top Bright Futures which is 1280. I have applied early for FSU and have everything in except my resume which I'll be doing this weekend. I've done many different sports throughout my schooling and am in NHS at my high school and in PTK (kinda like NHS) in Pensacola State College, the community college I'm dualing at. Now Florida State is my dream school and basically the only school I'm applying for (risky huh?). I'm going to be majoring in Pre-medicine also. So with all that said my question is this: how likely do you think I'll be accepted? anything I should do to increase my chances?? Should I apply for other schools or keep my faith that my grades and situations will make me a shoe-in?

“Accepted or not?” Not even close.

ACT 25 is in the 25th percentile of accepted freshmen. That means 75 % of students there have higher scores than you. While your app isn’t doomed, it’s certainly not bankable – in any stretch of the imagination.

Your plan to date requires serious tweaking.

"Now Florida State is my dream school and basically the only school I’m applying for (risky huh?). "

Risky? Foolish, to be frank. Plus, you don’t even mention anything about expense and affordability. You’ll be one non-college attending brother come Sept 2013 if you don’t get to applying to some back ups. Look, it’ll be great to have an ED admit from FSU but don’t count on it in the slightest.

Two final things: if you’re having issues looking up “majoring in Pre-Medicine” it’s because it doesn’t exist. And it’s “shoo-in” not “shoe-in”.

Please have a serious and frank talk with your Guidance Counselor and prepare other applications.

I appreciate your advice my friend, but don’t think I’m going into this blindly. Yes my ACt isn’t that hot but my SAT (which I am retaking) is a 1790. the range for those accepted in summer is 1970-1870. And grades isn’t it all; they look into if you actually have a “life” outside of school because it’s very easy enough to get straight A’s…But once again I thank you for your advice and I’ll put into some consideration…Oh yeah, and I’ll make sure to send u an email after March 20th when I recieve my acceptance letter :)
