Accepted/Rejected 2010

I’m so happy I found this web site! Made me a very happy girl.
First off, I got accepted two weeks ago  It’s my number one and I’m very excited. I applied to USF, UCF, and FSU. I’ve been accepted to the first two and I’m waiting on FSU (which will be this coming wed. :D). USF offered me 8,000 (4yrs) and I’m hoping UCF will offer something for me.

I’m 20/441
ACT composite: 28
Writing score: 9
Never took the SAT. I found the ACT easy.
9 AP class by graduation taken. 4 of which I’ve passed already and achieved the AP Scholar w/ honors award
2 dual enrollment classes at a local community college.
Little extracurriculars and about 40 hours of community service.

Alright, so I have a problem. Reading through some of the posts I went to check on myUCF and found out I got offered a Pegasus Gold scholarship. Yes I am happy :D

However! the problem is that it is offered for a Non-florida resident. I’m from florida, I’ve lived here for years and I’m waiting for them to update my residency since I’ve submitted all the documents they requested. So my question is, will I still be offered the scholarship money when they change my status? Or will it be void?

Next question is will I have to pay the 200 dollar deposit if I click on ACCEPT? Or can I ACCEPT without paying right away? And If I do click it, will myUCF page update with more information?

I want to click accept but I’m still waiting on the FSU decision. What should I do?

REPLY TO COLLEGESGIRL:

USF is very straight forward. They don’t want recommendation letters. They dont even have an essay or personal statement or Resume. They look more toward academics overall. All you do is fill out the application and pay the fee. Send your scores and transcripts and you just wait for a decision.

You can defer your acceptance …I beleive you have 30 days to make the decision, you should have enogh time to wait to hear from FSU. They also give Pegasus award to instate as well (probably for room/board).

How was applying to USF (Vs. UCF)?

Well, I haven’t gotten the official letter stating that I have the Scholarship. So, I have no idea what the letter says or anything yet. I should get it soon. I just want to know if I got awarded the out of state reward, then is it kinda guaranteed that I’ll recieve the florida resident one?

Oh and USF application was the easiest application I did. It was the first one I finished because it did not require an essay or anything too time consuming. If you’re considering applying, I recommend it. I used that school as my back up school. I know that out of everyone I know who applied, they got accepted.

Bonafide, we’re in the mid-Atlantic region - it’s my daughter. She wanted to go where it’s warm, so applied to UCF, USF, FSU, UF, and UM. Also got nice merit aid very quickly from USF ($10,000 a year, renewable for 4 years). So she may go to school in Florida, not In State Flagship.

Anyone else here from OOS interested in Florida mainly for climate?

How are USF and UCF for OOS students?

Oh well, my D emailed ucf and no merit scholarship. I guess her test scores were good enough to get in, but not quite high enough for any merit scholarship. Mmm… would have been happy with a bronze, but ? I guess not.

We’ll see, its not out of the question, but a little extra pocket money would have certainly been welcome…

:-)

I don’t know about this year, but if memory serves last year you could defer your acceptance of the scholarship decision until almost May 1, the same time that you have to accept fall admission and send in your $200. There was a box you click on my.ucf that would allow you to accept, decline, or defer the scholarship offer.

My son was accepted and offered $$ early to UCF, waited until the UF decision came out in Feb., was accepted to UF, waited, visited, waited, thought… and finally chose UCF Honors.

We DID send in the housing deposit ASAP, and I was willing to lose $100 if he had chosen UF. It was that important to me that he get housing on campus should he pick UCF. He’s in Towers III, the Honors dorm, and it was well worth the $100 risk, IMO.

hey everyone  i’m new to this website, but i’ve been going on it a lot to just read, but i decided I should just join! Well I just applied to UCF last night, and I feel like because I want to go here so badly I’m not going to get in :frowning: I was just wondering how good you guys think my chances are?

Also, I didn’t send my ACT scores because they are terrible (22). I only sent me two best SAT scores, which are still bad. I was wondering if I should just send my ACT scores anyway (But on the application I sent last night I didn’t put that as a test I took because I didn’t plan on sending it :/)

Also, do I send my last years AP scores now?

Sorry if my questions seem stupid, my parents are both from the Philippines and never went to college, and I am the only child. So most of what I am doing is on my own.

Out of state (NJ)

1 AP Junior year, 4 APs this year

Essay is fairly good, I had my english teacher read it and she commented it on being heart felt and truly unique to myself.

I also mailed in two letter of recommendations.

Once again I apologize for my questions, but this is my top choice and thinking about not getting accepted is driving me crazy!

Thank you :)

ACCEPTED since last month!
Summer Term 2010
1100/1600 SAT
1620/2400 SAT
HATE ACT!! Although i didn’t do too bad…

+100 Community Service
HOSA+Pre-med

Can’t remember my other stats at this moment, too focused on paying for the school instead lol

oh yea…lots of APs and str8 honors
Dual enrollment as well

Essay was killer in my opinion! lol

sjersey- I think you have a good shot at summer term, but fall term I’m not too sure about. Some people on here got deferred for fall term with higher scores than you. I think your ACT and SAT scores are somewhat similar and you should definitely send in the ACT score. Btw, I got in with a 22 ACT- for summer 2010.

I know this forum has a lot of people with high stats that got in with a very rewarding scholarship, but they also accept people with lower scores, so don’t be too pessimistic just yet. I didn’t think they’d accept me that easily, but somehow I got in, in less than 3 weeks.

If you passed last year’s AP class, then go ahead and send in the score, but if not, just don’t send it in.

Does anyone know how many classes you take summer term? And with a 22 ACT, would remedial classes be necessary?

okay, thank you so much! But unfortunately I’m applying for the fall term :(.

Also, I took the AP Psych exam last year but was only in honors, and I got a 4, but I took my one AP class, which was English and got a 2. So, I want to send it because of my 4 I got on a test that I didn’t take an AP course on, but I failed my English exam…what do you suggest I do?

In that case, just send in all your scores. AP scores doesn’t affect admission chances (I made several 1’s and 2’s, and they were somehow sent to UCF). They may offer you summer term or defer you until you bring your test scores up for fall term. Either way, good luck!

Mom2three - yes, you can defer acceptance of scholarships this year until almost May 1. We’re waiting on UF, FSU, and UM to make the final decision.

How tight is housing at UCF? Wherever she goes, I want her to get on-campus housing. What are the dorms like, and is Honors housing a lot nicer? less of a party scene?
I’m thinking about sending the deposits to UCF and USF just in case…

Good luck to all who are applying!

Mizzxvii,
I just want to congratulate you on your acceptance to UCF! You will be an asset to UCF. How do i know that? You are a real encourager to others on this BB and seem like a great person. I suggest you take 6 credits in the summer…most students do. These classes probably meet every day and you will have homework since the summer classes are condensed into a short period of time. Summer is a great way to go…you get to know the campus really well before it gets really crowded…you make friends where you live…and you slide into college life in a gradual way instead of Fall with 12-15 credits. Enjoy it!

califa-
I don’t know how tight housing is - I know they don’t have room for all the freshmen. We knew that was a super-high priority for us (son #1 lived off campus at UF, and that was not ideal) so we paid our $$ early and sons both got into their preferred housing - the Towers 3 honors dorm.

Jankrav- Aw, thank you! That’s so nice of you to say that! Though I do try to encourage people, I don’t want to give them a false sense of hope either. It’s obvious that most kids coming on CC or at least the one speaking up the most, are overachievers. We just need more people with borderline stats or a little under average of what UCF accepts, coming on here and post their stats more. I’m not embarrassed about my grades or scores, and if posting them can give people a confidence boost, I’m happy to do so. Thanks for the little piece of advice! 6 credits it will be then!

mizzxvii,
so glad u got in for summer too! my guidence counsler says that u should take 2 classes over the summer that way your not overwhelmed. and make sure u apply for housing early cause the UCF people said u will guranteed get summer housing but fall housin is not guranteed. anyway congrats.

taking the ACT again on Sat trying to get my 23 up, if that number goes up is it possible they could offer me money? does anyone know this?

Taylor- Thanks also! Does 2 classes equal 6 credits? I’m confused on the whole college credits thing… And what kind of classes would we have to take? My major is still undecided… When can we start applying for housing for summer and fall term?

Does anyone know the exact date for orientation?

Yea, most (if not all) classes are worth 3 credits.

i heard from my friend who took summer session at UNF to take one academic class and one fun elective class. He took a film class and a Writing class. Housing is open so you can apply for both(which i just did last week actually lol) and it says you can reister for orientaion but i have not seen where at. so i am assuming you can when it gets closer to march.

also bonafide, where can u see a list of classes to sign up for so that way at orientation you are not wandering aimlessly through the list confused.
