Accepted/Rejected 2010

I don’t know which dorm I want to live in yet! I’m thinking of Nike (are they even open for incoming freshmen, let alone summer term?) Guess I’ll search up more info. over winter break… And what if you don’t know what classes to take? Can you just begin taking your intro required classes? Such as English, Math, Science?

Someone please tell me orientation is just a couple days before summer term starts… Planning to go on vacation, but don’t know if I have enough time.

Mizzxvii, All Nike/Hercules dorms are for freshman only. The apartments in Academic Village are only for upperclassmen. These dorms are usually open for summer term. My son is in a Nike dorm currently and considering a Nike apt for next year.

JTaylor104, the best way of doing so, that I know of, is through the myUCF portal (click on “Student Self Service,” then on the front page, click on the green button to the right of the screen that says “Class Search/Browse Catalog”).

Mizz… If I remember correctly, last year Orientation for Summer term was 2 days on various dates in May and June. The last Orientation session was a few days before Summer B term began. My D, who is OOS, chose that timeframe and was able to move into her dorm, attend Orientation, then start classes that Monday.

Orientation for Fall (if you are starting in Fall) are in July and August, again the last Orientation date a few days before classes start.

If you are attending Orientation the week before school starts you have an option of moving into your dorm room early for a fee. For Fall, D was able to move in a week early and pay $100. For Summer, she was able to move in on Wednesday, attend Orientation on Thursday and Friday, and started classes Monday. I don’t believe there was a fee, but she did have to let UCF Housing know she was arriving early. I believe you can arrive up to a week before the official dorm opening date but only if you are attending Orientation during that week.

Also remember that if you are starting in Summer, during Orientation you will be required to sign up for classes for Summer AND Fall.

For Summer, D chose to stay in a Nike/Hercules dorm room. It’s a great area to be in for the Summer, close to the pool and gym. Take 2 classes for 6 credits. No classes are on Fridays.

For Fall, she chose Lake Claire Apartments because she wanted a full kitchen and not rely on eating out every day. She found that during the Summer she grew tired of eating from a microwave.

Question? If I apply this month, and send in transcript/Rec. letters/etc January…how late can I send in the SAT score?

I took the Dec 5th SAT, except I think I did POORLY. Can I take a January SAT? (earliest they’ll receive that score will be April, since collegeboard takes about a month to send them)

Site says: UCF: SAT Reasoning / ACT score report due by: 01-MAY

PLEASE HELP! ;)

Dymecaker305: you can wait, but they won’t make a decision one way or the other without everything they need. Send what you have NOW and if you get deferred send in your improved scores as they come in…they can change your admission status at any time.

Mizz: Congrats on your acceptance, I have a question though. Did you apply for fall and they offered you summer, or did you actually apply for summer term?

peacemkr59, that’s what I’m scared about. What if they reject me before I even get a chance to improve my scores this late ?

I don’t think sending out everything at once, in APRIL would help my chances? That seems WAY TOO LATE.

Would they consider me more, if I apply now and send in documents later ? (way later)

More than likely they won’t reject you but will defer you for better scores. If you’re able to get your scores up, they may change your status. Last year I knew students who got accepted after being deferred as late as May.

Thanks peacemkr, guess I still have a shot…so i’ll retake the SAT this January.

Has anyone been rejected ? or does everyone get deferred as for applying early ???

Conch10- Thank you! Even though I wanted to get in for fall term, I ended up applying for summer because one, I know that they won’t accept me for fall unless I bring my test scores up (didn’t plan on re-taking the ACT again unless they deferred me for summer) and two, summer would give me a head start to be more familiar with the campus (since it’s so huge!). If I didn’t go to this forum, I would never thought about applying for summer! I heard from somewhere that all students are required like 9 credit hours taken over the summer anyway? Not too sure… but would be great if someone could solidify that.

JersheyShoreMom- Thanks for all the information! I’m still looking at the prices and everything… Dorming costs a lot!

Today I read that UNF was going to make a decision for students who applied prior to November 15th. When i looked on line it read “no decision made”. What does that mean? My daughter has only a 2.75 gpa and 3.0 weighted gpa. She took the SAT’s twice. Her best score was only 480 math, 450 reading and 370 writing. She took her ACTS and only scored an 18 and 12 in writing. She is taking the ACTS again tomorrow. She also has Florida prepaid. Today she was rejected by FSU. She also applied at UF which I know will reject her, USF, UCH and in desperation I had her apply at FGCU last week.

Countrykickboxer- I would call and ask if I were you. I also applied and when I checked yesterday, they updated my status to ‘decision letter sent’. My friend’s page was also updated. We both also had a new student tab. I applied for fall term with a 22 ACT and a 3.4 uw, 3.8 w GPA and they didn’t accept me for fall… offered me summer. My friend however, got accepted for fall term with a 27 ACT. Talk about colleges getting selective! Good luck to your daughter!

Edit- It was prior to November 13th, not the 15th, so maybe that’s why!

Countrykickboxer, she just recently applied to UF ? I thought their deadline was early November ???

Actually it was November 13th and not the 15th. Also we applied to all the colleges way before the deadline. Yesterday FSU posted that they could not accept her. Late last night she received an e-mail from FSU stating her application is on hold and they want her to retake SAT and/or ACT ad updated transcript. I don’t understand how they reject you and then put your application on hold. Right now she’s driving to school to take the ACT. I am going to have her re-take the SAT’s for the third time January 2010.

mizzxvii: thanks! I had asked because a friend of mine applied to USF(fall term), with your range of stats, and he was offered summer instead. He has also applied to UCF(fall term) and I was thinking they might do the same thing. For USF he has to make a desicion by Jan 06 or he’ll lose his spot, i think, might be before that, and he was hoping UCF would just offer him summer instead of either denying or deferring him for fall. I’m still waiting on my desicion for UCF also, its killing me!

Well, I just checked USF,UCH,FSU and UNF all state deferred on her application status, well except for UNF which still states no decision made. Once chance left FGCU. I guess I can hope she does better on the ACT today and SAT’s in January.

im so nervous i just got a letter from UNF saying i am being deferred…

they need additional TEST SCORES, TRANSCRIPT OR OTHER INFO

i took the darn ACT test today 12/12…i hate these test

im applying to UCF when my scores are high enough…
