Zebes- my S in in the same dilemma…waiting on acceptance to UF, was accepted to UCF-likes either one… My question is should he hit the “accept” button on the UCF (you have been accepted to Fall 2010) status page and pay the $200 in order to make sure he gets on campus housing? The housing will open up up for Fall 2010 in a few weeks and I want to make sure that he gets on campus housing if he does decide to go to UCF. Or can he apply for housing in November without formally accepting UCF’s offer yet???

^^^
We were in your dilemma last year. My d was accepted to UCF with a Pegasus Gold scholarship and additional merit money from the Burnett Honors College. However, her first love – since she was about two years old – and the best fit for her was UF. UCF accepted her at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct, don’t remember … and UF didn’t announce until Feb. So she did not accept or decline the scholarships (I think there was a defer button), and she did not accept UCF and pay the housing, either. We decided that we’d wait until Feb, as we knew she would be asking for Honors Housing in The Towers if she went to UCF. We were also about 99% sure she’d be accepted to UF (she was Valedictorian of her High School, etc). A couple of years ago our S decided on UCF (freshman '07) and held off until he received his UF notification (didn’t get in). But he’d already been accepted to Burnett at UCF, as well, so he accepted his scholarship and did his housing in Feb., asking to be in Towers 3, which as the Honors Tower then … not sure about now, as he’s off-campus, currently. He had no trouble doing everything in Feb. But I think in that two years span things have gotten more competitive at UCF, as with all FLorida universities. It might be worth emailing an admission’s counselor and asking how “tight” housing is running in terms of waiting to apply to Feb. (or whenever additional schools report). I wish I could help more … it was a gamble on our part (eventhough we figured the odds were with us), and we just couldn’t see paying the housing fee if she wasn’t going to go to UCF. We paid the housing fee for both her and her brother at UF (but it was only $25 or $30) and … we lost both of those deposits as he decided to go to UCF, and she’s living off-campus as a freshman at UF.

Mom2three and Seiclan also have kids at both UCF/FL who might shed more light on this scenario. :)

Good luck! Hair pulling, isn’t it. <g></g>

my D was accepted and will not “accept” yet either - waitin on UF, however, you can still apply for housing. Don’t know how much, thinking $200 but…you have to think what if she doesn’t get into UF and it turns out she wants to accept UCF, at least she will have the housing. Florida Atlantic University is 20 min from us, that is an option as well since my D has an established p/t job and “internship” with a local vet (she wants to be a vet eventually)…so the decision is totally up in the air…ugh !!

question - how / when / at what point do you find out when / if your S or D has been offered a scholarship , ie: Pegasus or whatever…
thanks…(and any other handy tips - much appreciated)

My S received a scholarship in the mail about 2-3 weeks after he was admitted. It actually came up on his UCF status page earlier than that. We happened to be on that for some reason … I have no idea why. D’s scholarship notifications came at two different times. She received the Pegasus Gold (online notification on status page within a few days of admittance) and in the mail within 1-2 weeks. Scholarship #2: She was asked to join Burnett, she turned in her essay and application, and received notice that she’d been accepted into the honors college. Then, she received a scholarship offer through the Burnett Honors College within a couple of weeks after that. Hope that helps. :)

ALSO alongwait why did it take so long for them to give you an admission descion?

mmm. I"ll check again and see if I missed anything. … would it be on the same page as the acceptance, or a different part of the site near the student self service link.
thanks

I think mostly it was because the application was sent in before they even started reviewing them, but it still seemed like a couple weeks longer than everyone else once they started acceptances. Sit tight. You’ll hear soon!

lol oo makes sense. i am guessing you applied in the sumemr and thanks

Loony2nz all the things that are listed as missing will be on your application status page

no no…there’s nothing listed as missing - Im looking for any indication / notation of a scholarship (by some chance) and don’t see anything.

thanks for your help zebes…I see u and seiclan on the uf c.confidential site as well…my daughter goes to uf (senior) and son wants to go there too, but really likes the engineering dept. at UCF…would be happy either place…when I talked to ucf housing yesterday, they said that son does not have to accept ucf offer yet to apply for housing…don’t know if i trust that answer from one person…will continue my queries…thanks so much…anyone else who finds out anything…let us know

it is true, you do not have to accept to apply for housing. I called as well. You are doing it to save a spot in the event he decides to accept…my daughter is not accepting yet, but we will be doing the housing application to have a spot just incase.

If you are a dual enrolled student, but didn’t take a class, is it easy to convert to fulltime for 2010 at UCF?

Also does UF start admitting earlier than the Feb. date? How is their application.?

Anyone gotten accepted with a 20 ACT and mediocre GPA, yet? Haha…

I’m wondering the same about the scholarships indication Looony2nz…

collegegirl, i havent checked the dates since im already a college student, but if its similar to last year, the deadline to apply for UF is nov 1st, meaning its coming fast. they still look at students who apply past that deadline but realistically speaking, theres no chance of getting in unless u apply before nov 1st. and no they dont admit anyone before their set date. they just have one date where they give their decision to all applicants, which slows down their website tremendously. btw i would start that application ASAP, meaning as soon as u read this post if u have time. its a very long and detailed online application. the UCF and FIU ones i breezed thru in a few minutes bt the UF one took me quite a bit of time, and it also has an essay.

and to everyone else curious about housing, its in ur best interest to apply early but i wouldnt stress. you guys are waaaayy ahead of the game as it is. i applied to ucf in december, accepted in january, applied to the honors college in late february, got in early march, applied for housing i think in february as well and was able to not only get housing, but i got my first choice which was a single in apollo. there still is plenty of time so dont worry too much about it.

I checked the website again (for the 47th time LOL) and I found a spot about scholarships and it does say that notifications will be in early fall. (for the ones that are based on students that have been accepted and have whatever grades etc. that entitle them to being considered for institutional scholarships…so I guess we just have to keep checking…

Yes, the UF application is very long / more detailed. My daughter and I sat down numerous times, did different pieces of it, “saved”, then came back to it over the course of about a week…and yes, if you plan on applying, get going this weekend so you can have it done asap and LOL have fun.

so today is the offical 3 week mark i logged in around 2pm and got this message

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE SUMMER CLASS OF 2010!!!

OMG SO EXCITED!! CAN NOT STOP SCREAMING AND JUMPING UP AND DOWN LOL

Congratulations! Enjoy the rest of your senior year. :)
