Hey..I'm thinking about transferring to NYU from Pepperdine University (or community college if I would have a better chance). But i think i'll probably go to pepperdine and then transfer because if i didn't get in to NYU as a transfer, then i could still stay there and probably like it.

If you were a transfer, please include some of your stats that you think were important in the decision making (sat, act, essay topics, etc). Thanks!

thanx for changing your post from “your a ■■■■■■.” but i already saw it…

there really aren’t many transfers on here, except me and the other person who replied to your OTHER transfer post.

but honestly, you should be focusing on getting into somewhere for RD instead of obsessing over NYU.

oh. thanx for letting me know. how come ur on here so much? arent u busy with college? my friend goes to nyu and she has so much stuff to do there.

and i AM focusing on RD…i just am thinking about the future for nyu. ive basically got all my apps filled out and ready to send. it would just help to see what other stats were like for transfers.

it doesn’t take more time to come on here than it does to play a facebook game. i come on here, answer a question or two, then surf off to do something else. some people play Mafia Wars or Farmville, i answer questions on here. i LIKE talking about NYU, honestly.

i’m a research assistant for two different studies and i’m taking a rigorous courseload, but most of that stuff is during the day. plus, i have an Android. :D

Honestly, why do you want to go to NYU? I liked it’s programs, and my sister introduced me to some of its professors, but I’ve seen your posts praise only NYC. NYU IS NOT NYC, there are MANY colleges in the city. Why don’t you explore other city colleges for RD. Your stats are 3.73 and 1800 which is very low for NYU (thus the rejection). You may not strive there and you may find it very hard to pass. The workload may not be suitable for you, although it is ironic that you are criticizing an NYUer FOR BEING ONLINE. Honestly, that’s pretty rude, if you do somehow pull off a miracle and get in, I really hope you toss your laptop out the window because I doubt you’d have the discipline you expect in other NYU students. Take NYU off your mind already, there’s something called tiers in colleges and some are more rigorous to challenge the students who are proven capable through acceptance. A transfer is very difficult and NYU is a very difficult school. Just keep in mind that your parents are reluctant to pay the high tuition and that you’re from california. Think about those things in your future and the pressure, instead of the NYC lights, broadway shows, and clubs. As harsh as it seems, I gave up on catching the tooth fairy, bout time you came into reality. College is where you learn and find your way to a career, you clearly fail to see this

@missamericanpie

oh okay jw. i guess thats true…all i do on the comp is check my email, fill out scholarship forms, or check grades online lol

@ colij

there are several reasons i want to go to nyu…and as much as love its location, thats not the only reason for me to go there. and yeah ur right…i dont have the discipline and probly should throw my laptop out…thats why i end up stayin up late doing hw! but ill do it eventually! : ] and i think if i went to nyu, id be able to handle the challenge. being at a school where about 20 ppl continue on to good schools, doesnt really help out of 360 kids. at nyu, everyone is focused and set aside time for leisurely activities as well.

also, something else i thought of: transferring as a science major (aren’t you neuroscience?) is also MUCH more difficult than transferring as a liberal arts or business major, since CAS is pretty picky about what credits they accept and what credits they don’t.

transfers also get very little/no financial aid from NYU.

woah thanx for tellin me that! so what do u suggest i put as my major? ill probably go into pepperdine as a biochem major or psychobio major. since i will have taken classes there that have to do with the major, i cant really put business, but i can put i guess…psychology and switch? idk its so complicated! lol they say the major u put doesnt affect ur acceptance, but i think it does…

also, did u find it hard to come in as a transfer instead of a freshman? or did u fit right in? what was the dorm situation like? becuz if ur a freshman, u meet other’s that are freshman too but when u come in as a transfer, do you still meet people that are in the same age group as u?

i mightve asked something like that before and if i did, sorry!

you’re a TRANSFER STUDENT. you are bound to stay in the major you apply to NYU with for ONE YEAR. you’re not allowed to “bait and switch”.

ive watched this forum for months now but ive finally felt like i had to post something.

accepted to CAS for the spring
from a third tier state college in nj, college gpa 3.4
hs gpa 3.3
i got C’s in hs and college
i even failed a class
1640 SAT
never took any SAT II’s
i do have considerable creative talents and have been somewhat of a rebel though and wasnt considering college because i wanted to hit the road.
never took calculus.
took 3 years of math in hs
i have no connections to nyu or wealth.
i had great letters of recommendations.

ive watched posters on this forum bully babygirl. so she posts a lot and asks questions? it shows passion. the reputation of snobs at nyu is personified in this forum.

your pedestal based on acceptance is silly. is this forum some kinda clique?

babygirl, you have a personality and to be interesting through posting on a message board is impressive. i’d say youre better than the lot.

Applied for fall 2009 - REJECTED

-3.85 hs gpa
-3.93 college gpa (all A’s and a couple A-'s)
-2 Great letters of recommendation
-Wrote a terrific essay that talked about musical talents playing with some star musicians

Pretty surprised to get rejected from NYU. Got accepted into BU and George Washington and Boston College. Ended up going to BC, it’s a much better school than NYU and harder to get in to, so the decision was made when I was accepted into BC before I heard back from NYU

we’re not bullying her, vavaviolet. we’re frustrated because she keeps changing her stats, changing her major, and making it impossible to adequately give her the advice she needs to get into NYU. when we do give her advice, she sometimes ignores things that we say, when all we want to do is help.

i love NYU and i want to help people get in, especially as a transfer, because i know how heartbreaking it is to get rejected early decision.

what grated me on me were her rants about how she shouldn’t have gotten rejected because of this, that, and the other thing. but i got over my annoyance and gave the best advice i could give, circumstances considering.

congrats on getting in for spring, vavaviolet! spring transfers at NYU don’t get as big a welcome week as fall transfers do, but i hope you have a lovely first semester at NYU. i’m a spring transfer myself.

rejection is a very difficult situation to deal with. because its not like a person you ask out and they say no. its 4 years of working and wondering and getting a list in your head and then suddenly, wham! youre not in. its very hard to talk about that with friends because its kinda the elephant in the room that youre inadequate. or worse, you dont have someone to confide in.

rejection is like the scarlet letter, especially during senior year when “hey, everything’s changing but the small comfort in planning my future is gone because its not gonna change like you planned.” and being surrounded by people who did get what they wanted. especially because ad-coms aren’t predictable or consistent. look at bceaglefan as evidence compared to me.

when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, and then you throw it in the face of those that gave you lemons. when the emotions of admissions decisions finally subside, im sure babygirl will be thankful to this forum for listening, even with criticism.

absolutely! your post went straight to my heart. my ED rejection was to NYU, and i had been planning on NYU since 6th grade.

transfer admissions are particularly fickle. i don’t understand how bceaglefan got rejected, but it seems to have worked out for him in the end.

hey, if you have any questions about being a spring transfer, vava, feel free to PM me.

@babygrl - I’m sorry you got rejected from NYU, but as a HS student, don’t you think it’s early to think about transferring colleges? Go to the college you like most. Don’t worry about transferring yet. Just enjoy the rest of HS and have a good time in college. Then if it turns out Pepperdine isn’t the place for you, definitely apply to NYU. But don’t go into college with a “must transfer out!” mentality
Neuro is one of the more demanding majors at NYU and I believe it has more requirements than any other CAS major (Compsci might have more?) To ensure your credits transfer, definitely take Calculus I and Statistics right away at Pepperdine; these will almost definitely transfer. Also take 1 year of Gen Chem and 1 year of general Biology (called Principles of Bio I and II here) at Pepperdine if possible. This way, you won’t be behind if you transfer here. After 1 yr of Bio and Chem you can take Intro Neuro soph yr, as well as 1 yr of physics, orgo, and advanced neuro classes. I’m not sure how MAP requirements work for transfers.

PM me if you have specific questions about the Neuro, Chem, Bio or Biochem majors here

thanx vavaviolet. i guess people CAN take it the wrong way and consider it annoying…but whatever. ur right…it IS because im passionate about the school.

as for missamericanpie, i didnt change my major at all. i said i wanted to do neuroscience from the beginning, and was considering other majors. and i dont think it helps when u criticize someone constantly, especially over the internet, because most people are just going to follow u without the whole story. im not gonna fight about everything u say just to prove to others that its not true lol i could care less about stuff u dont believe. but thanx for changing and actually offering advice now with negatively criticizing much.

this forum was intended for ppl to post their STATS if they transferred. and two ppl other than u HAVE. so thats what i was looking for, not to mention the stats were lower than mine, so i was wondering if they give more leeway to transfers.

@ alix. thanx for ur sympathy : ] i didnt know neuroscience was demanding at NYU, but i didnt want to put something i wasnt gonna do just to change it a year later…probably the better way to go with my stats but oh well. its done. and thanx for the advice again! : ] ur right…about not going in thinking that i want to transfer out.

ive done calculus 1 already and doing stats right now. im also taking calc 2 at a CSU, and ill probably go to calc 3 and 4 before going to college. also i have taken general chem at community and AP chem at the HS. im going to bio over the summer.

ive basically got my general ed done (except for 2 or 3 classes). i guess i can keep taking more science classes?

Well, the problem is that you don’t know if all those credits will transfer. I did AP stats and AP calc AB in HS but still took stats and calc I in college.

honestly, I would reccommend to stop taking anymore classes at community college now, because it sounds like you’re trying to squeeze all your freshmen yr classes into HS - NYU CAS is really picky about accepting credits, and it would be a waste if you had to retake so many classes after taking them in advance. Calc 3 and 4 aren’t required for neuro, 1 and 2 from a CSU are fine and will probably transfer easily. As for gen chem and bio, I think they’ll want to see you take those freshmen year of whatever 4 year college you choose. Lots of science majors do AP chem and bio, but still do gen chem and principles of bio I and II once they get here; it’s much harder at the college level from my experience.

I would relax and save the science classes for college. The chances of NYU (or any other college you might apply to) taking the credits are higher if they’re taken your freshmen year of college, as opposed to during high school. good luck at Pepperdine
