Accepted Spring 2006 - Worth it?

Has anyone else been accepted for the spring semester? What are you going to do?

Do you recommend I rather go to another school(top choice for me is UCSB) instead of missing the crucial first semester of college(in terms of making friends, dorms, life, etc)?

I'd have to take community college classes first semester and then go in.

To those of you rejected, if you were accepted for spring 2006 would you take that route instead of going to your second top choice? I don't know how I should approach this.

Will I graduate at the same time as everyone else, will I get properly integrated, or will I always be second-class if I do this?

Thanks guys, I'm kinda worried, I don't know how to look at this. Thanks for your opinions.

I know someone who got in spring and he is doing fine. It was a little tougher socially because you missed a semester but you will make friends no matter when you begin. After you go one semester at a CC, you are totally a usc student. you cannot even tell u were spring. and the housing probably will be on campus apartments since dorms n suites fill up fast.

hey did you get notified your spring admission through mail? if so when is your mail postmarked?

i just got mine today (april 5th) and it was postmarked on the 31st i think... its kinda wierd cuz i live right in southern cal

We save money in going to a jc until spring. Over $20,000 grand. I think it is worth it, way worth it over UCSB. Trust me, I studied there and it is nothing compared to USC. USC has more prestige and we are saving money in this process of spring admission. I am doing it.

They notified me by phone when I called them and the mail is to be forthcoming.

There is always the chance you will be bumped up to Fall admission-I remember it happening last yr. Any one know how Bmurry is doing?

My friend who got in the spring semester option said that they told her that she could still live on campus to pledge, get used to the campus, etc. for the fall semester. Not sure if this is completely true, I don't know much about this option.

I know a guy who graduated from my HS last year who got in Spring semester. He took classes at a CC in the Fall and when he went to USC the dorms wer full so they put him in the Radisson!

do it! if my son was given the opportunity, he would have taken it!

When I was visiting last year I stayed at the Radisson and they had a floor of USC students! If I recall correctly, maybe more than a floor. Anyway, it seemed strange in a hotel and all. lol.

I'm in exactly the same situation. UCSB vs spring admit at USC. I'm not sure how wierd it would be to enter USC half-way through the year or if it'd be alright. Where do you live for the months that you have to go to community college? I'm just curious, whats the point of making you go to community college for a few months and then come to USC in January?

Thanks

Did the Spring Admission notification come by regular mail or was it sent on a quicker basis (priority mail, fed-ex, etc.)? Also, was it simply a letter, or the full amdmission package?

We still haven't heard from USC, and it is getting nerve-wracking!

I would definitely wait a semester to go to USC over starting right away at UCSB. I know last year when I lived in the Radisson (there were 6 floors of us, Sirwatson), the entire 9th floor was spring admits. They ended up bonding a lot, and having way more fun than any other floor in the Radi.

USC also offers things that they did in the fall semester, like having a day when you can look at all the club booths, and another day with all the jobs on campus. And if you are a guy, you can rush a fraternity in the spring semester.

megathunder, while it won't be exactly the same as coming in first semester, you won't regret it. You won't be treated any differently, and you can definitely graduate on time with your classmates with no difficulty.

MikeJones- you normally just live at home when you go to community college.

Uschicka - thanks a lot for the help

Dadof2 - I never got a package yet, I called and the woman told me over the phone.

thanks for the help guys, i couldnt respond earlier because im in germany right now. its going to be a tough choice because i dont want to be disadvantaged with friends, dorms, etc if i start a semester earlier. i know that the first semester bonds are the ones that last.

anyway, i still have to figure out the financial package and all that stuff, so its going to take some good time to decide. ill tour both places and whatnot.

btw, if there are any other spring admits, post your aim tag or something and we can keep in touch about what to do and all that stuff.

Also, I'm worried about what my financial aid will look like. My parents are only going to be able to pay for about $10k of my college expenses and since I'm a spring admit i dont think ill be getting any merit aid or scholarships so about $30k is left in the air. I'm sure USC wont be producing any of that for me, and it's virtually impossible to work study that. So basically i dont know what to do, ill have to call up USC and ask what its going to look like.

Anyone know what happens to a person in my position? Aren't colleges supposed to be able to help out with all of this stuff? Eh, I dont know how its going to work out, well see.

If you go spring, then you save $20000 by going to a Community College. That means you only need another $10000. If you really like USC, then go. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to get a spring admit. Yah it sucks to not get fall...but think about it...only a couple hundred got spring while 24000 got REJECTED.
