Are there any other spring transfers out there?
I've got about a month to find a place to live and sign up for classes...
Wow....I'm so excited but this is going to be one crazy month!

I'm thinking about transfering and am curious. Do you mind me asking where you go now and what your GPA is like? I'm out of state and I know what they say they want, but I'm wondering what the reality is.

yeah, spring transfers, please post your stats!
HS GPA, SATs, College GPA, current year (fresh/soph)

When is orientation and class registration, hazelrah?

I'm in-state, so I guess that helped. 4.0 gpa at JMU (james madison) and community college. High school gpa was probably a 3.6. SAT (old) was 1310Honestly, I'm surprised that I got in. I think it was my EC's: I'm a gallery artist, studied art in Italy and published a few short stories.
I'm a sophomore now but I'm pretty close to being a junior.
Orientation is mid january I think. I'm not sure when I'll register for classes.
This is completely insane: I've never even visited the campus!!!!!!
.....so is anyone a spring transfer? Are you a spring transfer, dfm13?

Yes, I am hazelrah. I was mildly surprised by my acceptance as well.

Surprised you got in? Lol. I'm not!

cav, any idea when spring transfer orientation and class registration is?

You should probably be getting that information shortly. Students have already registered but you shouldn't have any problem getting into classes. Have you looked at the COD? You might want to check it out:

excellent, as an econ/finance double major i'll be particularly interested in taking several upper-level econ and math courses. have you taken any such courses?

So are you going to be applying to the comm school?

I'm actually double majoring in math and economics. What are you looking at taking? If you're pretty good at math, consider taking math 514...

Yes, I was actually considering triple majoring in the aforementioned fields, although this would be a tight squeeze scheduling-wise. Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is Math 514? I have taken up through the equivalent of foundations thus far. Yes, I plan on applying to the comm school. Do you know their policy on new transfers? I should inquire about this directly with the comm school admissions office as well. I assume my previous grades would be what they base their decision solely on, as this would obviously be my first semester at UVA (as a second semester 2nd-yr).

You should definitely ask the comm school people. I have no clue. But, assuming that you had good enough grades to get in as a spring transfer, you should have have no trouble getting in.

Math 514 - mathematics of derivative securities - covers arbitrage arguments, valuation of futures, forwards and swaps, hedging, option-pricing theory, and sensitivity analysis.

Certainly sounds like a course I'd be interested in taking. Hopefully, I won't get shafted when it comes to registration in general. Have you taken it already/currently? What econ classes have you taken, and do you recommend any in particular, as my current institution has a relatively limited econ department when it comes to course selection.

I recently immigrated in the United States last November of 2005 and am planning to apply to diierent Ivy League Schools, especially to Harvard. Please share your thoughts about my chances of getting in to Harvard.

I haven't taken 514. I might take it this spring but I'll probably hold off for a few semesters.

I've only taken econ 201/202 (intro micro/macro) and econ 311 (mathematical micro, the more rigorous substitute for 301). I'm planning on taking econ 302 (intermediate macro) and 419 (industrial organization) this spring.

I can't really recommend anything (because I haven't taken that much) and the professor I would generally recommend is going to be on leave next semester.

pipoy, if you think you have an iceberg's chance in hell at getting into the big H, you should be smart enough to start your own thread on the topic in the Harvard forum.

Where are you living this semester- any recommendations as far as housing? What about transportation? Is it necessary to ride the bus/bike to get to most of your classes on time?

I'm living in Lambeth. I have no idea where to start with housing recommendations as I have no idea what will be available halfway through the year. In general, though, avoid Hereford and Gooch.

I don't have a bike or a car. The bus system is fine, but I walk everywhere. It works out fine for me (I actually like walking) but it's obviously a personal preference.

Ah, yes I believe I know someone currently living in Lambeth as well. At this point, all I know is I will be somewhere on-grounds. How about the food- is it worth it investing in a meal plan?
