Accepted Student Phone Calls (and a word on mail arrival)

Like EA candidates, students accepted RD usually get a phone call from current students. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions of current students, especially if you can't make it out to campus. Also, the person who calls you is often (but not always) from or near your state, so if you're especially curious about the cultural transition from the midwest to the East Coast, or the climate difference between California and DC, this also might be a unique opportunity. If you're not home, we'll leave a message, but given the large size of the RD pool, it's unlikely we'll have time to try again. So if it's especially important to you to talk to these types of students, you might make an effort to be home around the following times. Conversely, if you really want to find out via print form, you might check your called ID if for some reason you haven't received your letter: [ul][]Tuesday, March 31: 6pm-9pm EDT[]Wednesday, April 1: 6pm-9pm EDT[li]Thursday, April 2: 7pm-10pm EDT[/ul][/li]Note that the person calling you will just be a regular student. No one will be able to tell you anything about when you'll get financial aid info, telling us you need financial aid will not work its way around to the FA office, etc.

[Note: I am not a part of GAAP, the admissions office, or anything of the like. Calling accepted students back in December is the extent of my involvement in this area, so I don't know all the specifics]

Usually, they start off with the East coast on the first day, the Great Plains on the second day, and the west coast on the last. During EA, they ended up ahead of schedule, and finished almost the entire country on the second day. Given that there's twice as many people to be called this time 'round, and they haven't really publicised this to students as much as they did for EA (I haven't seen a single flyer for it), things might be a little slower, and I honestly don't even know if everyone will end up being called.

As you can probably tell, the times we're calling does give some clue as to when letters will be arriving. They want you to have your letter before you get the call, so the admissions office feels fairly confident that most East Coast people will have their letter by Tue. March 31, Great Plains people by Wed. April 1, and the west coast by Thu. April 2. They seem to usually play it fairly safe, and overcompensate for regional differences, so my personal guess is that *most students east of the Mississippi will get their letter Monday, and students west by Tuesday, although of course I could be entirely wrong.

That being said, there are plenty of other threads to obsess about when letters will arrive, try to keep the focus hear on phone calls.*

Just for planning purposes, does anyone know what the schedule is for RD admitted students visit days? I’m trying to plot out possible April vacation travel plans!!

Yes, I actually just finished the admitted student open house for EA students today. The regular decision dates are (Fridays and Saturdays):

April 17-18
April 24-25.

I would also be happy to answer any questions.

Thanks. I’ve got several but I should probably hold off asking until my son’s envelope arrives. He’s gotten very superstitious about this process lately… especially since he got deferred EA.

We visited last summer and it made a big impression then. Since this is probably on the ‘top 1-3’, a second visit would be critical to making up his mindi f he gets in RD.

Okay, so how is life at georgetown? Is there always something to do?
