<p>My daughter is accepted at SCAD! The letter came Christmas Eve, and she says it's the best Christmas present ever :)</p>

<p>Thanks, believersmom! She also just got a phone call today saying that she is awarded a $15K/year scholarship, so we are very happy campers!</p>

<p>Outstanding! Was that for academics or for portfolio?</p>

<p>I'm not quite sure. Her SAT scores qualified her for an "up to 15K" scholarship, the Mary and Paul Poetter Scholarship, Level 2. When we visited, they said the final amount offered would also reflect GPA, ECs, etc. Portfolio is not required for admission at SCAD, but she submitted one with both artwork and writing. The phone call (on the answering machine, so I can play it back and listen carefully :) ) said it's an ACA scholarship. The website says that this is a legacy from SCAD's merger with Atlanta College of Art, and is given to students who "demonstrate outstanding academic achievement " and also "extraordinary talent in the visual or performing arts" "or strong interest in . . . dramatic writing . . .or professional writing ". Since she wants to write and draw graphic novels, and sent in some quite good writing, I think that was what did the trick. The call also said that a letter was mailed today, so perhaps that will have some more info.</p>

<p>The letter finally arrived, but wasn't particularly illuminating, just boiler-plate praise: "The Scholarship Committee recognized your outstanding academic record, your exceptional artistic talent, and your leadership skills." In a nice touch, a birthday card from her admissions counselor also arrived today, with an illustration by a student.</p>
