<p>For anyone who has already been accepted or for Brad:</p>
<p>Given that acceptances are through snail-mail and not mailed until April 1st, when do you have accepted student days? Seems like reservations have to made on very short notice.....</p>
<p>We have already visited campus, but if (when) my d is accepted, she would like to have an overnight visit on campus coordinating with the official visit....</p>
<p>With the high volume of applications, this year's mailing date may be different. However, in the past acceptances have typically been mailed several days prior to April 1. S was originally an engineering student and I remember his day for open house for accepted engineering students was April 13, a Saturday for that year (I only remember because that's my birthday). I think this information came in the priority mail packet sent to accepted students.</p>

<p>With such a dramatic increase in applications, it only stands to reason that it will take the readers longer to evaluate each application. In my gut, I think it's going to be a tough year as they work to build a strong class knowing that they will all need to fit into The Commons. The last few years have practically sent the housing folks into shock as the yield was more than predicted and freshman had to be housed 3 to a room, in Towers, etc. It's hard enough for freshmen to be shifted to upperclass housing that is a 2 minute walk from Branscomb, but I know they must want to control the numbers this year so that all freshman can enjoy that new experience of being grouped together on Peabody. </p>
<p>That said, the admissions department is filled with a great group of people who have always been wonderful in providing this kind of information. Based on last year, I am sure Brad will provide the mailing date as it draws near and the blogs will provide further information. Aren't those blogs great! I know they serve a dual purpose - ease the minds of applicants and their parents with as much information as possible and cut down on some of the routine calls to the admissions office so that staff can better serve folks with out of the ordinary questions.</p>

<p>Do you have to wait for the mailing to make a reservation at a hotel? Even if Admissions cannot predict when the letters go out, they must have the Accepted Student Programs already in place. If you make a reservation and you get bad news in the mail (but of course you won't!) you can cancel the reservation.</p>
<p>As for spending a night overnight on the campus, I thought I read that Vanderbilt is no longer doing official overnight stays. Or, does your d/s have a friend on campus to stay with?</p>
<p>Yes, she does know some people on campus...I thought about making that hotel reservation (the Marriott worked out great the 1st time), but I'm not sure that the dates are set yet.....Does anyone who has been accepted EDI have those dates yet?</p>
<p>BTW, less concerned about hotel reservations, more concerned about the rip-off airfares on short notice (Gotta love Continental.....)..I guess if we're going to be paying up for Vandy education, we can build this into our budget, but so aggravating....</p>
<p>If you do go and visit tell the nearby hotels that you are visiting Vanderbilt... there is a huge discount...</p>

<p>This one's easy. Our mailing date will not be different this year. Our official notification is on April 1st, but we are planning to mail several days earlier as we have in years past. More applications means more reading, but the time frame is identical.</p>

<p>what happens if we're an international? Because mail from the states takes 3 weeks to arrive....so when would i be getting a decision?</p>
<p>Last year, I called the schools, asked when Accepted Students Day was, and made whatever hotel reservations were appropriate. Then (unfortunately) I cancelled some, but at least we weren't shut out of the ones that were necessary.</p>
<p>Chedva: Yes, that is a good idea (some of them I've already done)....I actually was thinking of airfare, more than hotels, but we will have to bite that bullet when (if) it happens......Thank You though.....</p>
<p>rodney, some airlines have low or negligible costs to change airfare (not the cheapest airfares, but maybe the next level of fare). Last time I looked, Southwest was $25, and you could use the ticket within a year. JetBlue is about $50, I believe.</p>
<p>Check the refund or change policy for the airlines. I'd make reservations for the schools that you consider "matches" or "safeties", and I'd wait on reaches - if she gets into her reaches, particularly with financial aid, you'll celebrate having to spend the airfare!</p>
<p>Funny, based on stats, we had thought she had no "reaches", only "matches"...Given this year's climate, however, I think that her "matches" have, unfortunately, become "reaches".....We do not have access to Southwest airlines (unless we want to drive 2 hrs), but Jet Blue is a definite possibility...Thanks for the help.....I'm going to call to get some of the dates this week (especially for the schools she has already been admitted to.....)</p>
