accepted students days

Has anyone been to one of the accepted students days and if so could you give a reveiw?

My D is attending next Friday and has inquired on attending a class on Thurs afternoon. I guess this process requires lead time and permission since she couldn't find a course schedule online.

Also planning to attend the honors college reception afterwards

Here’s my review: We arrived a bit late and I was amazed at how many people were there at the Sheraton. I can see why there would be no appropriate parking on campus. We took a shuttle to the opening session. A VP was doing a marketing pitch–you could find the same info. in a 5 minute internet search. Then, we had a session with some profs. from each specific college (smaller groups). This was entertaining for a few minutes. They were again marketing their courses and profs. It was fine. The walk through campus to an open session with faculty from various depts. was pleasant–the student center is very impressive. The access to profs. in various depts. was nice, but with so many people there, it felt vaguely competitive! Spoke to a very nice prof. associated with the FY studies–he seemed impressed that my daughter was considering the Honors college program.
I was a bit turned off by the session in my daughter’s potential major–an opportunity to engage the students in an exciting way was missed, and the Dept. chair walked them through requirements from a hand-out. Dull! Again, not a way to encourage matriculation IMHO. A student panel we attended was fine. Nice kids–direct and to the point.
The Honors dean was engaging and he gave a very solid talk at the reception. My daughter had a panel with some volunteer Honors students at that time.
She had the opportunity to stay over night in the Honors residence hall, which is very nice. Overall sense of UVM Honors–lots of opportunities for bright students, profs. seem fine, overall. Definitely a party and skier mentality, but obviously not all students are into either. I get the impression that Honors students will feel like they are in a select group–the intention–but it doesn’t isolate them, and may make them feel they are get the attention they want if they are ambitious. The Visit day seemed well-organized, well-run, and worth the trip if you are considering UVM. Hope this helps!
