Hello! I received my acceptance to CAS last night.
How much are you getting for scholarship/grant/loans?

I didn’t apply for financial aid but I want to check if I got any merit scholarships. On Albert in the financial aid section, my “Aid Year” option is unclickable (it’s not a link.)

It says
Select the appropriate aid year above to view your award information. If the aid year is not activated, your award information has yet to be determined.

Does this mean I didn’t receive anything or that they haven’t decided my scholarship amount yet?

@LLee424, they probably haven’t decided a financial aid package for you yet, unless you have a really high EFC.

NYU offered me a full ride - scholarship covered tuition and the grants covered dorming, which I was really surprised about after hearing that NYU gives little aid. However, it’s important to note that all the grants/scholarships aren’t merit based, but need based.

Congrats on your acceptance! I was admitted to CAS as well

I was given ~35K in financial aid. I thought it was above NYU standards-as many have noted how stingy NYU is with financial aid-but I’ve seen a few people who’ve been offered 40K-50K and even full ride.

@Meepify Congrants on full ride to NYU! I’m very jelly :)) By any chance, can you share your stat? Thanks!

Erm…here you go.
GPA: 99/100
SAT: 2120
Rank: 12/300-ish

Someone with a lower GPA than me (about 95 ish) and a 2300 SAT got offered a full also. I’m not sure what her EFC is, but mine’s pretty low <5000.

I got accepted, but I can’t access my financial aid yet…

I received 43,000 in a CAS scholarship, 3,000 work study, 5,500 from the Pell Grant.

SAT: 2190
GPA: 3.72
Rank: 67/470

I got ~50K in scholarships + grants (yay!) and the rest (I think it was like 11K) in loans and work-study.

Question: what is the Steinhardt scholarship and Steinhardt eckhouse scholarship? I tried finding it online but all I could find was some stuff about graduate school… What are the GPA requirements and will I have it for all four years? I seriously can’t find any information on it at all and don’t even know on what grounds it was given for (merit, need?) .

Recieved a $20k Gallatin scholarship, $5,500 Pell Grant, and $3,000 work study. NYU knew I had the GI bill, so they covered exactly the rest! So ecstatic.

@dreamer2012, according to my aunt to went to NYU, she said that NYU doesn’t give merit aid. All scholarships are given on a desirability and need basis.

NYU does give out some merit aid to those who do not have need. But it is mainly talent based (art, music, theatre), to those who have won Sieman’s or such, or to the very tippy top of their accepted students.

They will also give a lot of scholarships and grants with different names in differing amounts which are all need based. The amount you get will be higher if they really want you a lot, but without need they are not availble to students.

Most of the talent merit awards (no need) were only given out during RD rounds as a way of luring the most talented students to come. ED candidates in general are not offered these talent awards without need.

Thanks for clearing that up @uskoolfish… I was confused; if they don’t give money out on the basis of merit or need (like I read in another thread) then is it just random?! haha but yeah that makes sense. I suppose it was a mix of desirability + need that got me a good package.

Where would I be able to find information about the scholarships I was offered? I don’t know the conditions on which they’re given or if I will receive them for all four years… Should I just wait until the award comes in the mail? Because Syracuse and BU sent big booklets on interpreting the different kinds of grants and scholarships and whatnot. Ugh so confusing!

Wow, that’s really amazing. Congrats on the full ride to NYU!
I was given about 41k in scholarships and 3k in work/study and the rest (16k?) in loans.
Is it too late to apply for their scholarships? Particularly the AnBryce scholarship…

I also heard that NYU is notorious for a decrease in scholarship over the years. I would assume that my 41k scholarship now would probably be a lot less next year or the year after…

I only got 1K in scholarship, none for grants (even though I applied for it)…

My daughter received something called a “Tisch Scholarship.” Are you saying that this amount would likely decrease over the years? That sounds like a very insecure position to be in.

I have never heard of the amount of aid (scholarship) decreasing over four years–unless there is a marked decrease in need. If your EFC changes (increases) than I would expect there could be a revision to your package.

But if your EFC stays within a similar range, your aid should too. I would certainly call up the Financial Aid office to ask them about this–but that is my understanding based on my D’s friend’s experience over the last 4 years. D rec’d merit aid (talent) which remained the same each semester. I never did find out from anyone what the requirements were for her to maintain her talent scholarship. Financial Aid didn’t know when I asked them.

I just did a search and came up with this link. Hope this helps! Seems like they are quite lenient. Remember that when they are referring to financial aid they are talking about scholarships and grants on your financial aid statemet.

[Eligibility for Financial Aid](Eligibility for Financial Aid)

My EFC was $20k and I only received a $10k CAS scholarship. I have 2210 SAT, 1480/1600 SAT 2, 10 AP’s, 2 varsity sports, but my rank is only top 15%. Should I call admissions tomorrow and ask for more aid?

All right. I received $23,500 in two LSP scholarships combined, $3,000 in work/study, and the rest ($35,460) in loans. My EFC is $10,000.
I’d be interested in applying for more scholarship money, too. Is it too late?

What you are looking at is your financial aid package. You would not be calling to apply for more scholarships–you do not apply for scholarships at NYU. The money they have given you in scholarships is based on your need and how badly they want you to come. What you are asking for is a review of your financial aid package and for NYU to come up with more $ in scholarships and grants. You are appealing your financial aid. Typically, NYU does not fork over more than a thousand or two in the appeal process.

good luck!
