Hey now that everyone has either decided whether or not they are attending furman, I would be interested to hear which (if any) of the Summer Outdoor Experiences people were signing up for, and also, which housing did each person apply for?

Oh and from those current students (and parents of current students), while I've already applied for housing, which housing options are "the best" for underclassmen?

My daughter was assigned to Poteat. It is coed by floor. We didnt see any bad dorms on our visit.

We are unsure about Summer Outdoor Experiences due to the distance from the West Coast.

It feels good to have everything done except the final transcript, AP scores, medical forms and that perfect picture for her student body card.

I hope to see all the College Confidential folks at homecoming.

Also, who has decided on Engaged Living? I have heard great things about the wellness one, taught by Dr. Pearman (really nice guy by the way). All engaged living is in Poteat. For me, dorms are between Gambrell and Poteat. I like Gambrell because of its location in Lakeside.

My D was in lakeside as a freshman and loved it. Stayed in the same area (versus SoHo) for her sophomore year....but, she's really looking forward to North Village next year:)

Housing: I liked in lakeside housing my freshman and sophomore year and loved both. There is no "bad" housing on campus, and students normally remain loyal to their freshman location (i.e. Soho or Lakeside). It really depends on what kind of housing you want, mainly hallbathroom or suit style, and where on campus you want to be. I preferred lakeside because of its closer proximity to Johns Hall (home of the political science department). Many athletes like SoHo because it is closer to the PAC.

SOE: I went on SOE the summer before my freshman year, and while I enjoyed the activity, I did not enjoy the trip. My fellow students seemed to be stuck in their sophomore year of high school and the dynamics were not enjoyable. However, if you have already signed up, I hope you have a better experience than I did. I don't feel that SOE enhanced my furman experience, but it did not detract from it either. Oh, and if you are going, I hope you signed up for the white water rafting! It was so much fun!
