Hey Slang,
It's not a bother.

I chose RISD partly because they offered housing. I'm an international student (from Toronto) so I wasn't too comfortable going to LA without any place to stay. The cost alone of ACCD without housing turned me off a little as RISD was offering housing at the same price.

Though I made the decision beforehand, having John Maeda as RISD's president doesn't hurt as well.

At the same time though, I was really interested in going through a thorough foundations program. I have limited fine arts training and thought that RISD can help me in that side of things.

Many students will create and post their work to the Deviant Art website, which can have an extraordinarily diverse group of postings. Many colleges will even ask to see the their work (I know that MICA does since they have asked).

This is a good place for students to get critiques from others and look at a variety of work, assuming they have the time...

Deviantart is a horrible place to get any sort of critique. The members there believe that all art has merit. It's a good place to be seen as a hero if you draw a lot of bad anime fan art.

Lol. I use DevART to share with my family and friends and also watch other artists (there ARE some great ones there) but it is most definitely not a place to look for serious critique and DEFINITELY not a place to share with college reps (I know some schools let you sent a link to an online portfolio).

DeviantART is filled with lots of bad art and critique, I agree, but there are some terrific art pieces on there, including those by serious art students applying to college :)

Anyway, here's my contribution to this thread!

1) U Cincinnati (didn't require portfolio), Syracuse, Otis, RISD, Pratt, Parsons/Eugene Lang BAFA program

omg... random! I can't believe I found you here!

haha omg! this is probably the best site for juniors to procra- I mean, spend time on :)

& thanks starbright and jocan!

my d wants to major in film.does anyone have any info on the kind of portfolio they are looking for at chapman..she has not done much of art in hs as there were no courses offered but she ahs a good body of films..we were plannig to send her to risd for the pre college this summer and was wondering if it would help with her portfolio

Programs like that are designed to help students with their portfolio, so yes.

.. dude.. everyone is so pro so far... and they got into such pro schools. I'm rather scared for next year when I'm getting ready for portfolios. I think so far everyone has really good portfolios especially the graphic design ones<- making me more nervous cause I want to go to graphic design.

Do you guys know where would be a good place to get portfolio critique?

USC School of Cinematic Arts, NYU Tisch, Emerson, Boston College, Barnard College, Boston University, Harvard

Screenwriting

NYU Tisch, Emerson and I've yet to hear from the other schools

For NYU I had to do a 25 page creative supplement which unfortunately isn't on this computer...Emerson didn't need a portfolio. USC was more extensive and I had to write script samples. Unfortunately, all my stuff is not on this computer so I can't link it up yet.

Kittybro, go to a National Portfolio Day! There is no better place to get critiqued!
go to National Portfolio Day - Home to see the calendar. They have them in cities across the US. I think there is a thread somewhere in here about Portfolio Day tips that I would be sure to check out if I were you, because it is a zoo! But worth it. :)

EDIT: uhh, I just checked the site and it seems there are no more events planned for this year. But you should definitely start working on a portfolio so you can take it next year. Until then maybe you could find a local designer or a trusted teacher to give you advice, or join an online design forum. I'm sure there are some graphic design students/grads here on CC too :)

I got into Character Animation in CalArts (California Institute of the Arts)!!

My portfolio: ValArts

I JUST got an acceptance letter for CalArts Film & Video program yesterday!
I am so relieved and excited and happy. It's the perfect school for me (and kinda hard to get into - so im feeling very lucky)
here's my portfolio. (as for chapman, they don't ask for portfolios other than writing samples. No reels or anything. But they like the mainstream/industry style for sure...definitely not the school for me!)
here's my portfolio:

I'm new to this forum, and don't fully understand how to do this.. but I'm desperate to find out more about art schools.
Out of the schools that I've been accepted to, I'm considering SVA, Ringling, SCAD, and Uarts. I'm trying to make a decision, and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. ANYTHING AT ALL! thanks
