Accepted Students / Received Big Envelope: Problems creating email account?

Any other accepted student who has received the big envelope with their NETID having problems creating their email account? Making sure it's just not me...

Did you you wait 24 hours? I think that you have to wait for a certain period of time after registering your netID

That would be the reason then! :> It would be nice if it gave a friendly message to that affect vs. an ugly “Internal Server Error” message.

Man I’m jealous…I’m still waiting on my envelope!

Do you live in Chicago or Evanston? Pretty crazy that you got your package so quickly. I’m in southeastern Wisconsin and haven’t gotten mine yet.

Live in Northern Illinois.

Stupid snail mail. We probably live the same distance away from NU. I’m just really antsy to hear back about financial aid.

^^What hmbeast said.

@hmbeast: The envelope didn’t include FA info; that is to come under separate cover.

I got my big folder thing today, it has a letter about need-based aid, but does anybody know anything about merit scholarships?

I got mine today and was able to activate my NetID and create my email account immediately.

Northwestern, like the Ivies, does not offer merit based scholarships. The only merit scholarship you could use is one from an outside source (i.e. Coca-Cola, Byrd, etc).

^I am doing a dual degree with engineering and music. The bienen school of music does actually offer a select number of merit based scholarships, and when I spoke to the teacher in November she mentioned putting in a good word for me for those scholarships. I think I just assumed that all the NU schools awarded merit scholarships because the Bienen school does. Sorry for the confusion!

I also got my letter today and I live in Memphis. It seems that the international students got their aid package in their letter, but I haven’t seen anyone from the states get theirs. Financial aid should be online on CAESAR starting March 31st.

They do offer a small amount for Nat’l Merit Scholarship. I believe it is $2,500 annually.

Correction: $2,000 annually.

Got my letter, which my mom insisted on putting on our fridge like it was a good drawing. Haha. Something about my new @u.northwestern.edu email address makes me feel shiny.

I’m having the same problem creating my e-mail address!!! I activated my Net ID okay, but I keep getting an “Error: 1402” every time I try and create the email. If anyone figures out how to fix this, please post!

Did you make sure your password for your Net ID account was 8 characters and included at least one special character? My son was having a problem because he tried to make the password too long.

^ I had the same problem, although it did tell me that was my problem. Other than that, I managed to make my netID quite smoothly. I hope you succeed soon!
