^Call the schools

So I created a FB group (or page). I don’t really want to spend much time fixing it up so everything looks ugly for now.

[Cornell University Class of 2015 - College of Engineering | Facebook](Redirecting...)

If someone wants to write the description and “decorate” the group – just like the group and post on the wall that you’d like to be an administrator. I don’t know how to make other someone an admin but I’ll figure it out.

Good job sxeYustas I requested for you to make me an admin on the page

Added you! yellowsnowman, do we need more admins?

Cornell University Class of 2015 - College of Engineering | Facebook <– I think this is just a page. can we create a group?

Yes, blueapples, I created a group too, but it doesn’t look as good I don’t find groups as interactive as pages. Well, if you want a group too, then:

[Login | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook)

Go ahead and join :)

I began updating the CoE page on facebook. Check it out :)

What are some of you guy’s stats? (SAT/ACT, gpa, EC’s, etc.)

check out the ED results thread.
but a few of my numbers:
SAT: 2400 (superscored), 2350 (not superscored)
SAT II: Math II 800, Chemistry 780
ACT: 34
GPA: 5.1 out of 5.3
EC’s not extremely impressive

blueapples:: Wooohhhh 2400!!! u

GrizzlyMan:: SAT 1600/2330 (super scored two test) 2230 (one time)
GPA: 3.92/4.0 (unweighted)
EC: ok =\
More details: check ED result thread

SAT: 2280 (superscores) 2210 (not superscored)
SAT II: Math I 800, Math II 800, Physics 800, Chemistry 800
GPA: 95.4/100
:D

What kinds of ECs do you guys have? I’m a junior now with pretty good test scores, but I feel like my ECs are lacking compared to what I’ve seen here (I haven’t really done anything big that’s all about engineering. I haven’t helped with research or interned or anything like that).

EDIT: Oh, also, Computer Science! Can’t wait to meet all of you there!!!

Just copying what I put down in the ED accepted thread:

"Objective: Accepted to College of Engineering (I put this here, maybe?)

ACT: Composite 32, 35 M, 32 English, 32 Reading, 28 Science

SAT II: Take too long to put this down!!! But all above 700 and below 750. Math I and II, Biology, Chemistry, World History… Maybe more? Not sure.

Unweighted GPA (out of 100): 95

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): At least top 10 percent…

AP (place score in parenthesis): Calc BC (5), American History (5), World History (4), Physics B (4)

IB (place score in parenthesis): None

Senior Year Course Load <Highlights>: Linear Algebra (college credit course), Calc 3 (college credit course), AP English, AP Economics, AP Biology, AP Statistics, Principles of Engineering (college credit course)

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): RIT Computing Medal Scholar, Commended Scholar for National Merit Scholarship, AP Scholar with Honor Award, Multicultural High School Achiever from State of University of New York at Albany, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Advisory Committee School Representative, Honor Roll for 9th, 10th and 11th Grades, American Mathematics Competition School Representative, Math Honors Society Member, Yahoo! Answers Top Contributor

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Math Honors Society (Secretary), Tech Crew, Philosophy Club (Secretary), Guitar Hero Club (President)… More with that, but these kinda’ have to do with Engineering and are my main leadership ones.

Job/Work Experience: Private Computer Technician, Part of Tech Staff at School, Medical Billing with a Psychologist

Volunteer/Community service: LOADS! Basically my essays and what/why I want to do later/I want to do what I want to do.

Summer Activities: Community service and technician work and working with a graduate student at RPI.

Essays: Who knows! I thought they weren’t that good but then again, I am over critical about all of my work.

Teacher Recommendations: Probably outstanding. Won’t show me, but this mighta’ made me get in!?

Counselor Rec: Same as above.

Additional Rec: None.

Interview: Nope.

Other

Ethnicity: Indian

Gender: M

Income Bracket: 80k - 100k

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
I think I said them above… Also, sent in my resume on resume paper instead of attaching it on Common App. With the resume, there was also a cover letter which expressed my interest of joining the Engineering program.

Reflection

Strengths: Good ECs for engineering, wanting to be a college professor in the future to help out, GPA, HS Transcript (courses), lots of love

Weaknesses: Essays? SAT score, SAT II (they’re okay, but not outstanding), bad Science score on ACT

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Surprised. Maybe Guitar Hero Club got them? Haha. Don’t know.

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: First thing to be accepted to. Applying to elsewhere has to come to a stop, doesn’t it?

General Comments:
Wow. I am so happy and now can’t properly study for my Bio test tomorrow! Who cares (they might, but I’ll just spend all night studying if I can’t calm down now)! WEEEEEEE!!!
If you plan on applying to the college, make sure you have loads of ECs which match what you want to be. Err… I need to start making cookies or something for all of the adcoms. But I don’t know how to make em’!!!

Use my stats only as help into getting into Cornell. Do not think that if you don’t have the same grades as I do that you can’t make it. Just work harder, write better essays than I did, tell Cornell that you are right for them, and get lots of love from those around you.
Cornell rules, enough said."

Thanks Supervisor. I appreciate the help.

I’m just worried that my ECs won’t stand out against these other ones. I’m an eagle scout and the founder and president of my school’s Ronald McDonald House Charity Club and Young Republicans club, and I’m Secretary General of our Model United Nations program, but none of those explicitely have to do with engineering. I don’t know if I’ll be overshadowed by other applicants

You’re welcome!

As for what to do, you’re going to have to express your interest in the essay - and make sure it sticks!

If you really do have good test scores, I have some news for you:
At my school, looking at a scatter gram of all those who applied to Cornell, those with a SAT of 2200 and above along with a GPA of at least 94 got in.
All of them!

If you are taking the hardest courses available at your school and doing well, you could get in like those I described. Just make sure your essay captures the adcoms’ attention and you should do fine!

Okay, I’ll focus a lot on my essays. Fortunately I have almost a year before I apply, but I’ll get a head start this year.

Everyone with a 2200 and better got in? Someone from my school with a 2210 got deferred. I got a 2280 my first time, but I’m still concerned about my ECs.

Thank you for your help! This makes me feel better :)
