Looking forward to a great weekend (with awesome weather!) in Williamsburg. Any dinner suggestions for a Friday night dinner..nothing fancy, but nicer than a pizza/burger place. Walking distance from campus is nice, but not necessary.
Trip Advisor suggests Food for Thought and 2nd Street (or Avenue?).
Suggestions appreciated!
Thanks!!

Second Street is good but not within walking distance of campus. Nice dining area /American style bistro is how it is described.
Sal’s by Victor is right down the street from campus on Richmond Rd in the Wmbg Shopping center. More than just pizza.Nice dining rooms.
New Town has Bonefish Grill.Have to drive to get there.
Have fun!

I’d second Food for Thought, and suggest Blue Talon, a casual bistro with food that’s quite good. Both fairly affordable. I do not advise Seasons, in Merchants Square, though it usually has available seating - the food’s just nothing special. If you like Indian food, Nawab on Monticello has a nice buffet.

Food for Thought was very good. I’d suggest making a reservation now.

At the higher end, Le Yaca and the Fat Canary are good. Carrot Tree in Yorktown is, well, different. Trellis can be hit-or-miss, but most like it. As mentioned, Food for Thought is good.

If the weather’s nice, a sandwich from the Cheese Shop eaten al fresco can make me happy, but that’s not really “dinner.” Opus 9 is good, but pricey, Tequila Rose is popular, though I find it to be a bit “meh.”

Anyway, congrats!

The Day for Admitted Students website provides a Williamsburg dining guide on the schedule portion (under weekend events). Have you considered participating in the AVAdventure tomorrow night? Details were in the confirmation email sent Wednesday to all Day for Admitted Students registrants.

We look forward to having you on campus this weekend.

Thanks for all the input! I’m excited for the trip. W&M Admission, I did hear about the AVAdventure (loved the President’s video message ) but it sounds as if you need a smart phone to participate? I’m afraid that we are not that high tech…but we will definitely try to be on campus at 8 pm to see what will happen to the statues… :)

Sorry, we realize it’s too late now but all you need is an iPod (anything that plays an MP3). Hpe you enjoyed it!

We did have a wonderful time. Just to follow up - we had dinner at the Blue Talon (my daughters choice - and we were happy not to get back in the car after a too long drive on I-95.) It was on the expensive side, but very good…if you like French food. And it was very nice to be able to stroll campus right after dinner.
We did see the AVAdventure going on…it was funny to see them all without being plugged in - loved the costumes (and learned the one we saw was actually the student president) They were certainly enjoying themselves :)

We were able to have dinner at Food for Thought Saturday night. We did call ahead, which really is necessary. Our wait was 15 - 20 minutes while others were told an hour or so. My husband LOVED the shrimp and grits. Other dishes were good…perhaps not quite as good as we expected, but we would definitely try again to order other items. Loved the atmosphere and the service was very good.

What a wonderful program W&M put on, most notable the morning program. Just reconfirmed our family’s love for this school.

We are in Williamsburg often and have tried all of the places mentioned above. My very favorite place was left off the list. Baker’s Crust (just off 199 at the far end of NewTown) is always good. Lunch nor dinner have ever let me down.

I remember both Admitted Student Days that we have attended. William and Mary does a great job. I think the nicest thing is that it is not just a one time thing. I have never been to the campus that I didn’t get that same great vibe. My son and daughter both loved WM!The beginning of freshman year and end of senior year are so full of great traditions. There is a total experience that just begins with ASD.

Agree with Baker’s Crust recommendation. It is great in Williamsburg. Went to the one in Richmond and was disappointed in it. Another good place for a very casual and inexpensive lunch or dinner is Five Forks Cafe. It’s a diner with great, home cooking and tons of food!

Baker’s Crust has also opened a small store in Tribe Square- the new student housing complex on Richmond Road. I think it is just called “the Crust”. Doesn’t have the full menu but does have wood fired pizza and a to die for turkey sandwich on jalapeno cheddar bread.
