Accepted then rejected?

Have you ever heard of anyone who received an acceptance letter from a college then learned from the college that the letter was a mistake?

A couple of years ago, one of the universities sent acceptance letters to everyone who was rejected because of a computer glitch and it took a couple of days to sort things out. So yes, this can happen. However it is a rare event.

I think that was Delaware, wasn’t it?

I only heard that if a student who got accepted stop earing good grades at high school.
Like If you usually got a 4.0 and after they took you, you failed the classes then they could remove you from the list though.
But I don’t believe this because colleges wouldn’t do that.

this happened with UCSD a few years back. the computer sent acceptance emails to everyone on accident lmao

Wouldn’t do what? Withdraw an offer of admission after an admitted student slacks off egregiously? That happens. Search College Confidential for the word “rescind.”

Or do you mean wouldn’t accidentally offer admission to a student it meant to deny? That’s rare, but it has happened. In fact, it happened pretty famously last winter. I’m pretty sure it was Delaware.

Way back in the mid 80s, my college roommate was accepted to dental school - then received notification a day or two later that they had accepted the wrong person (same exact name) and his acceptance had been rescinded. Thankfully, he was accepted later to another school.

Happened a few years back to an IB student who was accepted to Middlebury and then basically blew off senior year.

There is a difference between being rescinded with cause (ie totally slacking off after getting your acceptance) and being rescinded because a mistake or glitch occurred. The OP is asking about the latter.

OK. But either way, the answer is yes, since both things have happened.

I remember the Cornell one mentioned in that article which occurred about 6 or 7 years ago, For its early decision for which Cornell gives computer notice in mid-Dec, the computer, at about 5 in the evening, provided rejections for those Cornell intended to admit and acceptances for those it intended to reject. It announced the error about four hours later and sent out email notices. Of course, in between many had informed family and friends that they were accepted.
