(Background: NJ Shore CC student. 3.8 or 3.9 GPA at graduation this May. PTK Honor Society.)
I was accepted to Rutgers, Monmouth, Rowan, Stockton, and Kean.
Pretty sure I’d get accepted to many similar NJ schools - TCNJ, Montclair, etc. So I’m totally open to any college in NJ!
My biggest wish is for a school that is medium sized, with a good history program and opportunities. I would really like if it also included anthropology as a major too.
Rutgers is my #1 choice so far, but I worry about how large the campus sounds to be.
Any suggestions on Rutgers alternatives?
TCNJ would likely match what you wish the most closely in terms of focus on history, high-level teaching, and size, but Rutgers should be a strong contender. Between these two pick the least expensive one as both will be a terrific value.
My son is a freshman elementary ed/history major at Rowan. He loves it. Rutgers was way too big for him - he wanted a walkable campus, no buses. Rowan is pushing 20k students, but has kept small class sizes. There’s tons to do on campus and pretty sure they have anthropology.
TCNJ is also a great school, much smaller, but have heard great things about it. Good luck!
Rutgers NB has terrific history and anthropology departments.
As a transfer student, you’ll be in smaller upper division classes. Rutgers is also not that huge. Most of your classes are likely to be clustered relatively close together.
I went there forever ago and found it quite manageable. I took a very few classes at Douglass but that was by choice, not necessity.
@mamaedefamilia I visited my friend last year (dormed in Douglass) and what a pain it was to get to College Ave. We walked the farm, Passion Puddle, and what not… Serene atmosphere, but dorm building itself can use some help. :))
