Accepted to a good school with a not so impressive gpa?

Has anyone been accepted to a great school with a gpa of around 3.5 (UW) and a 29 ACT? I feel like everyone on this website has such impressive scores. It’s not like I’m trying to go to an ivy league school or anything, but there are a couple schools that I like that I am not sure if I can get into.

I got into Kenyon ED2 with a 3.46 UW and a 31 superscored ACT (30 Composite). It’s definitely possible. I put a ton of effort into my essay and I’m pretty positive every other portion of my application was glowing or very impressive, and that is what drove me into the acceptance pile. I’m unsure if you’re a senior or not, but if you aren’t, I think you should focus on having an awesome midyear and writing strong essays, and having the people behind you to give you stellar recs. The holistic process is real–don’t give up!

yes! With a 3.6 (4.1 weighted) and a 30 ACT I was accepted to a top 20 LAC!

@senioryear1516 would you be able to elaborate on your situation if you dont mind?

I hope you don’t stress too much about the scores you see published here. They are way, way higher than what admission officers see coming across their desks. In reality, only a small % make 32 and above on the ACT. But a fairly large % posted on CC are at that level. The vast majority of schools would love to accept a quality young person with your GPA and SAT. You can go to many schools where you will meet amazing people and study with amazing faculty.

Besides the useful thread provided above, look at some national ranking lists and start scanning down from the 30s or 40s. Look for schools that are where you would want to study, have programs that are a good match, and that will potentially be affordable. These are terrific schools where you can get a great education!

Use the given 25-50% ranges as a guide. Remember that these may be super-scored and might be a little higher than a range based on straight-up composite scores. Lots will include a 29 ACT in this range. The higher you are relative to the range, the more likely you are to get merit aid. Can you take the ACT again? You might very well raise your composite and/or super-score. Good luck.
