Accepted to another school after ED acceptance

Hello,

In the fall I applied to four colleges. One application was through an Early Decision program. In December I was accepted to my Early Decision school. Adhering to the Early Decision agreement, I called/emailed my other three schools and requested that my application be withdrawn.

Today, I received an acceptance package from one of the other three schools. I distinctly remember calling the school, talking to someone in the admissions office and being assured that my application would be withdrawn.

Is this going to be a problem? Is there something I should do? If it matters at all, I already submitted a commitment card to my Early Decision school. There's no reason for them to think I won't be matriculating.

Inform the recent school that you had previously withdrawn your app and you won’t need their slot since you’re a Brown ED acceptee. Brown won’t be bugged by it since you followed the rules

Happens all the time. (I think that some schools do it on purpose bcos they want to add your stats to their “accepted” pile.) But in any event, just pen a short letter to #2 reminding them that you called back in December to withdraw your app bcos you had been accepted ED elsewhere. Thank them for their interest.

Jack,

Brown distinctly wrote in their ED requirements that you could NOT apply to anywhere else…not EA, not SCEA…although yes, you could apply to a school if they offer rolling decision. Here’s hoping this is a school offering rolling decisions!

lima: Jack applied to other schools along with ED Brown. Once Brown accepted him, he withdrew the outstanding apps. If one applies ED, he/she isn’t *prohibited *from sending in other apps – the contract enjoins them to withdraw them if an acceptances is granted. Jack did fine.

I applied to regular decision for all three other schools. I know, without a doubt, that my application to the school was not in violation of Brown’s Early Decision agreement.

I was just worried about what consequences this school’s mixup could have for me, but it looks like none. Thank you bluebayou and T26E4.

^Your application wasn’t, but not withdrawing it once you found out about Brown would have been. Luckily, you followed the necessary procedure and there was just a blip in the system.

Send them a quick email or make a call to let them know you withdrew your application in December and will happily be attending there.

Shouldn’t be a problem.
