I am really curious if anybody here has been accepted to both Brown and RISD? I have seen one person posted that they were accepted to the dual program, and that there were only 10 out 500 people admitted to it.

I wonder how many of the 500 actually got accepted into both, but necessarily the dual program?

30 were accepted to both, 18 to the program. There’s a BDH article about it.

[The Brown Daily Herald](http://www.browndailyherald.com)

D was accepted to RISD and waitlisted at Brown. We are unsure of her chances now at the dual degree program. The liaison for the program has left the country for the month of April and no one at Brown seems to be able to give us any concrete information. I will post again if her status changes.

^^^ most likely low as there are 12 kids who did get into both who would presumably be in line first for the program (unless, i dunno, they somehow sucked), and getting off the waitlist is very, very hard. I don’t think they are giving you any concrete info because there isn’t any to give. Remember this is the program’s pilot year.

RISD is great and you can take classes here :)

D would actually like to defer a year. She has been offered the chance to dance professionally with her ballet company, one she probably will never have opportunity for again. Do you think her chances for the dual degree program would be better if she spoke to them about deferring? She also wants to take a year to shore up her artistic skills (she is completely self-taught).

I’m not quite sure how to increase her chances for Brown. She is the first in our family to attend college and this is all new territory for us…

lol the BEST way to shore up her artistic skills is freshman Boot Camp at RISD. If she got in, they belive her to be prepared.

I don’t think taking a year off would effect chances. I think taking a year off in general is a fantastic idea.

I mean IS there even a waitlist for this program? I know you’re on the waitlist for Brown but as far as the program, they could be done. Like done done. I know this is something you don’t want to hear, and I’m sorry. It’s like so close but so far.

To increase waitlist chances at Brown, write a letter that reaffirms your desire to attend brown, why you think it’s a good fit, and give any updates on awards or whatever. Make sure you are allowed to defer off the watilist (I know a few years you couldn’t…but i heard recently of one who did recently). If you have someone who could write a very powerful and fresh letter of recommendation that you haven’t yet sent in, do so, in teh context of Brown.

Thanks, ClaySoul, you’ve been incredibly helpful. We’re thinking the dual-degree program may be closed for this year, which is okay in light of her preferring to defer anyway. Brown is by far her first choice, and though very artistic, she does not want to go to a stand alone art school. She may defer to RISD, then re-apply to Brown and the dual degree program for next year.

She was recently flown to WUSTL and loved the interaction with all the academically talented students, but the graphic design opportunities paled in comparison to RISD’s.

We consider it nothing less than a miracle that RISD admitted her. It’s a great school for graphic design, no doubt. There was just something very, very special about those Brown students though…

You should talk to me like woah. i would be infinitely glad to help. and there are a few things you can do to improve your waistlist chances…but it’s slim, it is. i was initilaly watiilsited and transfered here.

I’m an art major here at Brown but also take a lot of classes at RISD, so I know a lot about cross registering v taking it at your own school (wustl) etc. also wustl and brown are very different atmospheres.

if yo dont’ want just art, don’t go to risd. it’s fantastic, but it’s very much a preprofessional art school without as strong of liberal arts or intellectual focus. at brown i have found both in both my intellectual and artistic pursuits.

I can’t recommend Brown enough, and I feel like applying a second time is a worthwhile endeavor if she’s taking a year off anyways.

i’m kind of babbling cuz i’m in class (eep)
but pm me!!!
