Accepted to both UCLA and Berkeley?

I don't know if this was discussed earlier, just post the link up if it has, but I've heard rumors that if a student is accepted into either UCLA or UCB, they will not be accepted to the other.

For example, if i got into Berkeley, i won't get into UCLA, or vice versa.

Is this true? can anyone comment?

Sorry for double post

no it's not true. i got into both, and so did a lot of other people, but also a lot of people got into one but not the other. It really just seems to be luck of the draw.

I got into both CAL and UCLA. I have a lot of friends that got into both also.

I wouldn't say though 'it's a luck of the draw...' :)

This thread feels like deja vu...

No, it is not impossible, and it is not luck of the draw. It is just hard to get into both because both are hard to get into.

I got into both for engineering, and I honestly dont think my application was that great.

I got into both last year.

If you get into both, which one is better? I know this is a dumb question and all. But what are your opinions? Which one would you go to? Why?

It depends on what major, in general I'd say berkeley, especially for engineering.

yea, i applied under electrical, and according to rankings and the like, Berkeley engineering is ranked 2nd nationally, tied with Stanford, and behind MIT, which is ranked #1. But what if I want to do something in both medical and engineering?

mm luck of the draw, meaning that it seemed like some a couple people i knew seemed soo qualified, that it was really suprising they didn't make it into both. It seemed like a lot of Spring admits for Berkeley weren't accepted at UCLA shrug. A lot of people get into both though.

bump......

both my cousins (applied in 2001 and 2004) got into both

Which is better...

They are different. and without wanting to turn this into a 26 page debate over which is a better school, this is my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

I love Cal, I don't really care for UCLA. It's a personal preference. It seems that those that choose UCLA tend not to like CAL too much.

Cal has Telegraph Road and UCLA has Westood... Cal has DRab, UCLA has Flopsy...

Both schools are great for undergrad...you need to visit each and decide which school best fits you.

CA2006,

I actually like Cal quite a bit as well, even if you may not believe me. I think that it's really an incredible institution with a lot to offer any undergrad or grad. And even if Berkeley's not quite as shiny as Westwood, it's a college town with a lot to offer.

Both are special in their own way.

The top dozen kids at our local HS were admitted to both last year, but L&S. Engineering schools are much more competitive than L&S.

Spring admits to Berkeley tend to be at the bottom of the applicant pool, so no surprise that they weren't offered admission to UCLA.

It's Telegraph Avenue not Road.

CTBear, also look at UCSD which has phenonemal biomed engineering.

bluebayou- spring admits tend to be at the bottom of the ADMITTED pool not applicant. obviously cal's not going to admit the bottom of the applicant pool when they only take a quarter of all applicants.

UCLAri,
I wasn't singling you, or anyone out as being a Cal hater... the type of student attracted to UCLA normally wouldn't appreciate Cal, and vice-versa.

And by the way, I was accepted to Engineering not L&S and know several Cal and UCLA students accepted to both, in my opinion there are a large number of cross admits into Engineering.

I got the recommendation letter from UCLA school of engineering, and I received regents from Berkeley. I applied under engineering school for both. Statistically, CAL is ranked higher than UCLA in engineering, but is there anything else that I should consider before making my decision as to which school to attend? (besides the obvious, such as school life, campus, etc.)

Bump.......

Acceptance into both schools is not uncommon. CTBear, I have many friends in Mech.E. The curriculum really works you and is very difficult. I get the feeling that the consensus is dissapointment, because they are used to being the best and recieving high marks. Now that they are at Cal, they thank the lord that they pass and are not on academic probation.
