G’day,

I just got the letter that told me that I could finish my degree at Brown.

I’m pretty stoked and I am very very keen to immerse myself in something new.

I’m from Sydney and I go to uni at Sydney (University of Sydney).

Does anyone, perhaps another transfer applicant(international), know about the deadline and forms to be filled out? (this is the question I need answered most, the rest is optional not that you have to read or reply to any of this)

My brother had to fill out many many forms for his freshman admission to another school.

Also, I’m a dedicated footballer so if anyone could tell me about the football(soccer) at Brown?

Which places, festivals, sights, tournaments or events are good to travel to in the summer in the U.S? I’m an avid sports fan, beach-goer, swimmer and I enjoy watching live music.

I am a biochemistry major and a statistics major here (I’m actually one and a half semesters from graduating the 3 year degree at Sydney, making this move a bit expensive and crazy).

Out of curiosity, any other Australians that attend or will be attending Brown?

Thanks,

Michael

Lovely on your acceptance. It will be an enriching experience, culturally. I can’t say how Brown compares academically with your school, but you know we have 4 year BA/BS in the US. At Brown you can take grad classes as long as the professor allows, and they have a 5 year Masters program in many areas.

For paperwork and deadlines, it is wise to consult the website or directly email the admissions staff, rather than rely on website forums.

Don’t know about soccer, but most sports are well represented here, club and intramural sports if not on official team.

You will find out more about where to go for summer once you are here. But in the immediate area, you might like to get a bicycle and ride the East Bay trail along the water to Newport when the weather is nice. Providence also has Riverfire festivals that begins before school is out and goes through the summer. There’s a lot of music to see in Providence and Boston is only an hour away for more options. There are so many music festivals in the U.S., it will depend on your taste. Of course, you will visit New York.

Get yourself out to California in the summer, I’d say. SF and SoCal are unique experiences. Many visitors here like the Grand Canyon and other natural wonders. Are you familiar with couchsurfing.com?

I don’t know much about it, but the soccer team is pretty good here (they’ve played in the national tournament quite a bit lately, though the coach recently left).
