I'm oos but was accepted at cal and ucla. Could my rejection at Michigan be due to the fact that I applied on the last possible date? Obviously I wasn't really considering going to mich but it still suprises me. Btw 34 act and 4.0 gpa and excellent ecs. I've also gotten some other excellent acceptances.

is cal and ucla in state for you?

no I'm out of state at both cal/ucla and mich. I'm also a notre dame scholar (top 20% admitted students) at nd.

It's because you applied so late. Minimal displayed interest combined with Michigan's slight case of Tuft's syndrome.

yeah that's what I was thinking. It doesn't matter I'll prolly be going to duke, cal, or ucla next year

Wow congrats ^_^ Go to a UC :D

I know a couple of people accepted at UCLA but waitlisted at Umich (don't know about UC-B) that were out of state at both.

Why do people apply to universities when they know they are not going to attend them? Perhaps it was all too clear to the admissions office of your intentions. Did you ever think of that?

Ha Mr. bluedevil, we are almost identical! I also got into Duke, UCLA, Berkeley, but also Michigan (which is where I might end up). I just found it funny that our college acceptances are so similar lol

This is a perfect example of what happens when you apply late to this university. They handle it terribly and Im sorry you had to experience that even though you arent attending. but think of kids who REALLY wanted to go, were just as qualified as you and just waited a month. Its a HUGE deal, Ive been telling everyone this for awhile now, if you want to go somewhere, APPLY EARLY AND GET IT OVER WITH.

^completely agree, especially for university of michigan. don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute to apply; trust me doesn't work out too well.

totally agree with everyone. My friend got rejected from Michigan with SAT of 2160, excellent EC and GPA because he applied little late (like December 30th). On the other hand I got accepted with ACT 32 and weak GPA, I had a chance, but it was definitely a reach. I still can't understand college admissions. I also got wait listed on RPI?? ***? applied there in November.

I seriously wish that people would only apply to their like top 5 choices not somewhere they know they won't go. It would make things so much easier for everyone...

^^, uhh maybe because they won't necessarily get accepted to their top 5 choices? by applying to more good schools (assuming u know ur calibre), u give urself a higher probability of being accepted into a good school. Had he not been accepted into UCLA, Cal and Duke, perhaps michigan wud've been his choice? or if he had only been accepted to duke and michigan it wud've been a hard choice to make. I think, when students apply, they should apply to many good universities that they would consider, not necessarily go 100% but at least consider, because just in case, u don't want to get rejected from ur top 3 choices, then end up at only a safety, when u cud've applied to 10 really good schools, gotten into at least 1 or 2.

Wow I had an opposite situation when I applied..
Accepted to UM, rejected from UCLA/Berkeley. And I applied UM last minute, hehe
2390 SAT, 4.25 GPA, ton of EC

Im in state of Cali and i didnt get into ucla nor berkeley

:( my first post in forever haah

My son got waitlisted at UM, but accepted at Cal and UCLA. Got waitlisted at MIT. Weird.

The number of stellar apps who ended up waitlist is something that has been remarked upon on campus. Such was this year.
