I was rejected from Mechanical engineering (first choice) and accepted to my second choice, computer science. When I picked that, I knew that I was interested in that sort of thing, but wasn't exactly sure what it entailed. I also knew that Natural Sciences would be easier to get into, so I decided to make CS my second choice major. Now that I am in, I'm not sure that I want to do that.

What are my options? Can I change my major before school, or should I just do CS and try to transfer over as soon as I can? What other options do I have?

Thanks to all who reply.

Hey,

So as a little bit of background I’m accepted and enrolled at UT for CS… OK, so when you apply for CS at UT you are actually applying for the Pre-CS sequence. This involves taking some Calculus classes, and then a few of the basic CS classes. At the end of that (usually end of freshman year), you have to apply again to become a CS major. The requirements are fairly easy, I believe.

Unless you have a lot of AP/transfer credits you will not get very far into the CS major during your first, so you won’t be losing anything if you stick with Pre-CS, and then apply to change to whatever major you like more.

IMHO
