Accepted to Fall, want Summer B

Hey everyone, I applied for the Fall Semester and got accepted (wahoo!) but I am extremely interested in doing the summer session. Who would I need to contact / email about requesting an admissions change?

Thanks

You should contact www. admissions.ufl.edu or freshman@ufl.edu . However ***Please be aware that when you change your session from Fall to Summer B, you may not hear until May if your request is granted and this is after all the other Summer B students pick their housing! My son wanted to do this last year as an incoming Freshman and was told that his changing from Fall to Summer B would likely put him on the bottom of people choosing housing for the summer, and he would probably get a triple and may not even get on campus housing!! Also, Bright Futures does not cover summer tuition, so be aware of that. Think carefully if you are willing to possibly not get housing on campus for summer B if you decide to switch your sessions from Fall to summer B.

UF has been very accommodating with term changes the last couple of years. My D started in 2009 and had been accepted to Spring 2010 and was changed to Summer B 2009 on request.

The housing is the main thing that gets messed up with the changes. However, given the fact that she basically lost her housing priority with the change in term, we quickly discovered there are so many nice all-inclusive apartments and the one we chose even gave us the summer rent free, so it worked out great. She has never regretted not living in the dorms. Compared to the dorms, the apartments seem very luxurious for college students.

Good luck with the term change requests.

Im a little confused; So if I want to change to summer term from fall, then I will loose my housing? Do people stay in the same housing for summer and fall? Couldnt I just go for summer but do an apt there. But then apply for fall housing for on campus dorms?

UMcane3435, if you change your starting term, from Fall to summer, you will most likely be at the bottom of the housing list for summer B housing…meaning you may not get housing, or you may get a triple room but only for summer B. My understanding is that your Fall housing number will not be affected…only your summer B housing if you decide to switch terms because they won’t notify you until May if you can be switched, and by then, summer B students have chosen their housing and you get the leftovers. People don’t stay in the same housing for summer and fall. You have to move out after summer b. You could definitely do an apartment for the summer and retain your same housing status for fall…that is a good idea…you should be able to sublet an apartment for the summer on Craigs list.

what about the “Luxury Dorms” would we be able to do this just for the summer or no?

don’t know about the luxury dorms…Ivy House, etc. These are across the street from the main campus, but aren’t part of UF residential housing. I hear they are pretty nice, but am unsure of summer only rentals…there are a ton of ads on craigs list gainesville in the spring advertising for summer sublets all over town
