I am currently a 2nd yr student at a CCC and I will be a junior transfer student this fall. So I was accepted to Haas/Berkeley about a week ago, but I didn't submit my SIR yet because I wanted to wait for USC and see how much financial aid I get. If you guys were in my position, would you guys just go to Haas automatically and forget about USC?

The most important factor for me is the total cost of attendance, since my parents won't pay anything. I just have to pay $13,000 total for Haas for next year. I highly doubt that USC would be cheaper. But lets look at the best case scenario. If USC offered you a full ride, would you choose that over Haas for $13k?

I'm supposed to hear back from USC by June 1st, but I may not even hear back until mid July if they request a spring grade request.

If it came down to a full ride at USC vs $13k a year at Haas, then I’d definitely consider USC. If you’re doing accounting, you can’t get much better than Leventhal which is consistently a top 5 accounting program in the country. Likewise, as a private university, USC won’t have to deal with any of the problems that Berkeley will have to deal with in the near future (budget cuts, increase tuition costs, etc). If you’re looking for the “name”, Haas probably is “better” than USC. Can’t deny that. But don’t forget that the Trojan alumni is very prevalent and USC isn’t a “nothing” school either.

Have you visited both campuses yet? I think if you have a strong feeling towards one school or the other, then that’s probably the right school for you. Both are great choices and you really can’t go wrong at either school.

I have visited USC and I thought the campus was very nice. But the most attractive aspect of USC is that it’s located in the heart of Los Angeles, sort of. I wanted to go to school and work in LA my entire life (either at UCLA or USC). I know Haas is alot more prestigious than Marshall, but I just don’t really want to move up north. I’ve never been on the campus, but I’m visiting there in June, which is after the deadline for USC’s SIR. The whole competitive spirit at Haas is good, but it may create some unneeded stress and hostility between students who are fighting for grades (bc of the harsh curve). I want to be part of a community, a family, just like the Trojan Family. But is it worth sacrificing a Haas education for this sense of community?

If you’re just trying to spend the next couple of years getting a good education, by all means, choose Haas.

But if you want your college experience to be an actual experience, Marshall is the way to go. Either way, it’s not like you’ll be sacrificing a great business education.

Congrats! I’m very interested in going to a CC for 2 years then transfering to UCB, USC, or possibly other schools with prestigious business programs. I have a 4.4 gpa with a strong upward trend as I will be entering my senior year at a private hs in socal, but my test scores could be better. I’m working hard to get them up to a high # that would assure me into some of these schools, but would you suggest a CC education?

I’ve taken rigorous courses at my high school and got a high GPA, are CCCs are easy as they seem? I was looking into SBCC (santa barbara cc) as i would be living on campus with that college-life experience, while hopefully getting a 4.0 gpa as planned. I would get on the TAG system to be safe, with cal poly slo or UCSB as backups (assuming this program doesn’t fall with obama’s terrible reign haha), but what sort of chance would i have at applying to Haas or Marshall?

I would put forth my best effort to get an internship/job opportunity pertaining to my major right before my freshman year of college, would I easily be able to balance both school and work. would it be difficult to intern at a decent company as a CCC student?

so many questions haha, but I’m very interested in how you made your successful progression, and kudos for saving a lot of money!

If my kids told me they could get into USC with a full ride vs. Berkeley at $13,000, I’d ship 'em off to LA. At the undergrad level, I don’t get the sense that whether you went to Haas or Marshall will matter to an employer. If this was for an MBA though, definitely Haas.

As mentioned previously, the campuses are very different. I always thought the SC campus was awfully cramped, but I still like it more than the Berkeley campus.
