Yay! The letter came yesterday. They have an honors day, but I'm suppose to go away on a youth group thing that day. Does anyone know if it's worth going to?

Congrats! That's awesome. I'm a current honors student, so if you have questions, ask.

The scholar's days are really important to go to for anyone considering Rutgers honors even a TEENSY bit. I was very against going to Rutgers and attended and realized that a lot of my perceptions about the school were way off. There are 5 scholars days planned for the spring. If you can't make the one that they send you, you should contact the office and see if you can attend a different date.

Try emailing honors@sas.rutgers.edu ... This is a new email for the SAS honors program. If you don't get a reply within a few business days, let me know and I can give you an alternate route to get in contact with the dean.

i was accepted to rutgers like 2 weeks ago, but ill only go if im accepted to honors... i don't see why I wouldn't be... i was wondering if it came with your acceptance letter and stuff or if it came later? if it came later how much later? thanks and congrats!

i got accepted a long time ago... I think late october or early november maybe. just got the honors package yesterday

my honors letter came about 2 days ago and i was accepted about a month ago

I was accepted about 3 weeks ago and my honors & scholarship letters came today. super -- what are the advantages of being in honors and is it a lot different?

Hey aube--

First of all, to everyone accepted to the honors program I'd highly advise trying to make one of the scholar's days in the Spring. If you can't make the one you're assigned to, contact the honors office to sign up for a different date. I really didn't want to go to Rutgers as a high school senior and when I attended the scholar's day i realized that a lot of my perceptions about Rutgers were misguided.

Anyway, the honors program offers a good amount of benefits to its members. Here's the website, theres a decent amt of info on it: http://sas.rutgers.edu/index.php?opt...2&Item id=124

There are a bunch of interdisciplinary honors seminars offered every semester where a faculty member gives a course to about 15 students on some topic they're interested in. I took one last year called Communications and Human Values with one a founder of PBS and ex-president of the Motion Picture association's rating system: http://www.scils.rutgers.edu/facstaff/profile/?netid=heffner

There are also honors versions of regular courses, which are nice because either they're a lot smaller or they meet in recitation with the professor who's teaching the lecture (it depends.) I've taken Orgo, Intro to Philosophy, and a few other honors classes. These are the honors courses given this semester: http://oldfas.rutgers.edu/home/beals/honors/HonSp07.html

They didn't have this for the Rutgers College Honors Program (what I'm in), but for SAS they're introducing these honors colloquia that sound really neat.. just a bunch of plays and films/cultural events/speakers or whatever that the HP will probably pay for us to attend, I'm assuming.

There are other perks of the honors program, like honors housing which is really nice and also honors advising. The honors deans are really knowledgeable and helpful and can help you avoid the infamous RU Screw... I haven't been screwed yet knock on wood.

Hopefully you have a somewhat better idea of what the honors program is like now. I really urge you to attend the honors scholars' day coming up so you can meet the people involved with the program and current students. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Two questions:about how many students are in the honors program each year and is the male to female ratio in the program 50:50?

Well it's hard to say because the SAS honors program will be in its inaugural year next year. Rutgers Colleges gets around 200 honors program students each year. I think Douglass might get around 40 or 50? Livingston got around 20 I think. So maybe 200-300 will come into the SAS HP next year.

I believe the male:female ratio is around 50:50 but I have no idea if that's really true. It's a state U so I don't see why there would be a slant one way or another. If there is a small imbalance it's certainly not noticeable.
