I received my acceptance letters to both DePaul and Illinois Institute of Technology for a Master of Science in Computer Science, and now I just need to decide which school to go to.

Both schools are well reputed in the Chicago area, but I'm not sure about their recognition in the rest of the nation. I'm also not sure what to expect about the difference in a technical institute versus a University

I got my MS in computer science and an MBA from DePaul. It seems to me that DePaul is more well known outside of the Chicago area and definitely well regarded in the Chicago area. There is a large alumni network due to their extensive graduate programs. I felt that their programs in the CS area were very up to date technology wise and were taught by experienced professionals in their fields. There is a lot of flexibility in class times, locations and many online options available. My only experience with IIT is when my son took some summer programs at their Wheaton campus. He was not very impressed by them. He also took a summer program at DePaul in the loop and felt that was a better experience.

IIT has students getting internships and jobs all over the country. I can’t say why @JCCsMom’s son had a bad experience but many students come to IIT, like it, and do very well. I suggest you speak with the faculty to decide. After all you are the “client” here.
