I was accepted to the M.S. Civil Engineering with specialty in Structural Engineering program starting Fall '12. If anyone is part of the program or knows about it I'm asking for a little more info on what to expect. Curriculum, professors, research opportunities, thesis vs comprehensive exam, student body, etc. Don't really need to include info on the school in general, I live in the area and been to the campus a couple times. I was also accepted to CSUF (back-up, but now not an option), expecting to get into SJSU, and 50/50 at Cal Poly Pomona.

hey! thats awesome congratulations!! i got in as an undergrad for Civil Engineering. Where did u do your undergrad if you don’t mind me asking?

p.s CSULB’s graduate department in civil engineering is ranked pretty high so you can’t go wrong! :D

Thanks, I’m happy I don’t have to go to CSUF ahaha. I did my undergrad at UCSD. Great Program and top tier professors (at least according to their research). I wasn’t able to take advantage of the ridiculously awesome research opportunities at UCSD, that is why I ask what resources CSULB has.

hey i was just wondering whether you can post your stats like gre, gpa, etc. I applied for the electrical engineering program but still haven’t gotten a decision yet. You had to go to the admissions site and have them send you a application status to your email to check right? am i doing something wrong?

Yes that right, you just check your application and they will send you an e-mail. When did you apply? I applied early March and just got results last week. This may or may not be the case, but the department could be trying to figure out if they want to admit you or add you to the waitlist. Good news, you didn’t recieve the rejection letter. So just keep the waiting game and you’ll know sooner or later. Good Luck.

what were your stats? Or is that like a private question that people going to grad school don’t like to answer?

oh sorry my stats are as follows.

GPA: 2.97 at time of application, it’s higher now
GRE: 147 verbal 159 quant. (4 on essay)

i was told that no letters of rec are needed but i mentioned my research experience in my statement of purpose.

congrats on getting in. pomona’s suppose to be pretty good even for their masters program too though, CSULB would probably be my second pick. i know this was posted awhile ago, but do you recommend taking the gre’s even if you meet the minimun gpa requirements? Im looking into applying to different masters programs too at various Cal States and I’m also a UCSD alum. Thanks for posting your gre scores too.
