Accepted to Oxy!

Received a big priority mail sleeve today that contained my accepted letter and financial aid information! 20 grand/year scholarship included! :)

Prodigyy11 where do you live? and congrats!

SoCal… Culver City… so close :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks! Got rejected from Pitzer lol guess I know who’s side I’m on :)

yes, Well, Oxy is the better school! SO ENJOY
and GO for it at OXY!

have they sent it out to everyone?

Congrats to you! :)

Got mine yesterday as well  I live in San Diego.

S received his yesterday with a Trustee Scholarship. Pepperdine is not high on his list, so there may be $12K freed up for someone soon. But who knows what another visit might bring.

D received her priority mail envelope yesterday. Accepted with the Girls State Scholarship ($15K per year). She also rec’d a $3K Oxy grant along with an offer of a no-interest loan. We make too much for financial aid yet are not rich by any stretch of the imagination so this is very, very welcome. Now sending her to Oxy will cost about as much as a UC so it’s a reality. She has visited Oxy three times (tour, interview and overnight visit) and she absolutely loves Oxy. She also received her UCLA acceptance yesterday too so this was a very exciting day for her.

Oxy is her first choice so she is absolutely thrilled. Her Dad and I are pretty excited too.

Ahnelk, that’s totally how i was too, except I was rejected from UCLA (not that that matters now). Oxy was my first choice since the very beginning.

Also, congratulations to everyone accepted! I hope you guys go the open house to get to know the college!

accepted…just got priority mail

FA - achievement award 5K per year
some loan - 5.5K per year

I got rejected. I thought I had good chances too considering my ACT and GPA were within the range of those accepted.

This really hurts.

what were your scores like? I live in India, expecting it in a day or two

Ahnelk and juan06, congratulations! I am curious about the reasons that both of you have Oxy as first choice over UCLA. My D got accepted to Oxy as well, except that she had hoped for UCLA, but was sadly rejected last night. I don’t know much about Oxy, never visited, so any opinion/info would be extremely helpful. Thanks! BTW we are out-of-State.

@shanaypatel I had a 4.11 gpa and a 28 on the ACT. Looks like I probably won’t be getting accepted at usc either…

Accepted from nj with 7K honors merit award! Congrats to everyone accepted and to those rejected / waitlisted I sympathize as I’ve been there before…
haven’t visited yet I am going to soon (hopefully USC too)

Really excited and oxy is definitely a solid option for me…I know they are completely different but my decision may come down to oxy vs McGill (accepted a few weeks ago an this has always been one of my first choices) and ofcourse if admitted USC will be in this mix too…so if anyone has any input please share!!!

dizzybug: My D didn’t want to stray too far from home (we live about an hour from Oxy) so definitely didn’t want to go out-of-state. I thought she was a perfect fit for one of the Claremonts, but she wasn’t impressed at all with them.

The reason Oxy is her first choice is the reason many don’t like it. She loves the small, intimate atmosphere and was just overwhelmed by the size of UCLA. I like the small class sizes and the fact all the classes are taught by professors, not TAs. We knew very little about Oxy too before someone suggested we tour it. My D just fell in love with it. It is a beautiful campus and when she did an overnight visit there she just really clicked with a lot of the students there. So many of them are a lot like her. She is very smart (2220 SAT - 750-Math), but her passion is theater. She wanted to go to a college with a good theater department and Oxy has an excellent theater dept and a beautiful theater. We (her Dad and I) wanted her to go to a college where she could indulge her passion but also major in ‘reality’. What she found out from her overnight/theater day visit is that many theater majors at Oxy are double majors and that really appealed to her.

Everyone I have talked to who has gone to Oxy has nothing but wonderful things to say about it. I think it is sort of a hidden treasure that many don’t really know much about.
I’m sorry your D was rejected at UCLA if that was her first choice. Oxy is very different from UCLA but from everything I can read or heard about it, it really appears to be a wonderful school and I’m confident your D will have an amazing college experience there if that is where she chooses to go.

Good luck!

Congrats to all who made it to Occidental. Super boss!

I’m still waiting for news from Occidental…is there a way to check whether i made it or not online or does the letter come only through snail mail?

@dizzybug

There are so many reasons why I would choose Oxy over UCLA (the people, atmosphere, much more caring helpful professors, they REALLY like to take care of you, etc.),
but none of that can do it more justice than having an overnight visit there, that’s really the only way you’ll know if it’s right for you!

@roopoo Only snail mail for Oxy, hang in there :D
