Accepted to Pace as Transfer, but

My son applied to a few schools as an MT Major Transfer, Pace being one of his first choices. Long story short, he missed MT audition deadline by 1 day, but received his Pace acceptance letter. Obviously we’re very upset and trying to figure out what to do? Does anyone know if he can attend Pace, take MT classes and Audition next semester, or is it time to move on? Thanks for any help or advise!

Best,

Disappointed parents

Hey,

I was actually in a similar situation last year though instead of being a transfer I was a high school senior. At the time I was told that I could audition in fall to join the class in the spring so decided to attend Pace. But, between the time I had accepted my academic offer to go to Pace and move-in day on September 1st a decision had been made to only allow students to audition to join the class in the fall. This decision had not been officially communicated to any one, especially the students who had previously been told otherwise. As far as your situation, at the moment there are some general acting, a few dance classes, and some theatre history classes that your son could take but nothing specifically specified for a Musical Theatre student. From my experience as well I would say it’s harder for a current student to be able to join the major but I suppose it isn’t unheard of.

Hope this helped,

Been There

My D who attends Pace and did so with the hopes of auditioning into the MT program, but to no avail. You can only audition one or two times from what I heard. It is probably a better situation to re-apply and audition again next year. Or, if he has auditioned elsewhere, wait to hear from those colleges.

We considered this, as D received a substantial scholarship to Pace academically and she really liked the theater program opportunities. But after furthur consideration she decided against it. I have also heard that getting in as a current student is more difficult. She was lucky to get a couple of acceptances so this is no longer a consideration for her. Best wishes to your son!
