If one was accepted to a summer program (for example, RSI, TASP, etc), but could not go because of a serious emergency, is it still worth (or okay, for that matter) putting on the college apps that you were accepted (even though you were not able to attend for some reason)? This isn`t about me, but I was just curious. Not that anyone would probably forfeit a special opportunity...

What kind of serious emergency? If it's something that puts you out for weeks, then although it would seem pretty silly to write "Accepted to RSI/TASP" on the application, you could write about it in the "Extenuated Circumstances" section of the application, such as "I was really looking forward to going to RSI until 3 members of my immediate family died in a car accident."

I doubt this happens often though. Serious emergencies are not common...

Yeah, I know that this is very, very uncommon, but I was only wondering, again.

KCHEN,

Put it down.. one can't attend every function. Even if there was a minor conflict which you had a previous commitment.. a commitment is a commitment and should be honored. Don't dump the baby out with the bathwater. Congrats on your acceptance.

Well, I didn
t get accepted to any summer program, and I
m definitely not going to forfeit my spot if I were accepted to one.

I'm applying to three summer programs, each of which overlap. I'm definitely going to state which ones - if more than one - I was accepted to and explain why I chose which one to attend.
