So… I have so far gotten accepted to 4 out of the 7 colleges I’ve applied to! They include San Jose State, San Francisco State, Humboldt State and Channel Islands State! I’ve visited Humboldt State, SF State and SJ State, however I am extremely frustrated because I can’t choose between them academics wise. I am almost positive that I don’t want to go to Channel Islands, but I would still like to know the best things that each school provides. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?
First of all, Congrats! It is a big decision you’ll need to live with for some time. There’s no shame in taking your time and weighing your options. It sounds like you are making good progress narrowing them down. It is probably easiest to start by eliminating the bottom of your list (which it sounds like you’ve done).
You don’t list your major but, there are a few programs that probably should direct you to one campus vs the other. For example, Forestry and Marine Bio are Humboldt’s forte. SJ has a really strong computer science program. SF has a great theater program.
For most programs though, all the schools you are considering will give you a competitive degree. So, think about what it would be like to live on/near each campus for 4 years while you study. Humboldt and SF State couldn’t be more different - one is pulling your heart-strings more strongly that the other. SF and SJ are more similar - though the weather in San Jose is usually much nicer.
Not sure which 3 are still ‘out there’ but, I’d encourage you to narrow it down to 2 (3 max) based on what you know about the school. Attend their admitted student day. You’ll get a solid feel for who goes there and what it’s like to be a student. Think about weather, surrounding area and such, i think your path will become clear.
The good news is, you’ve got some great options - you kinda can’t go wrong.
Good luck.
