Accepted to SFSU. Go the pre med post back route?

I’ll get right to it:

I am pre-med & want to pursue an MD.

Went to a CC after high school; originally a biology major but switched over to psychology after taking some med school prerequisites at my CC. Transferred to UCLA and graduated with BA in psych.

CC GPA: 3.9
UCLA GPA: 3.6

I still have a few prerequisites left: physics and o chem. The med school prerequisites I have already completed were done before transferring to UCLA (at my CC) because I was originally a biology major. Now that I have graduated UCLA, I am wondering if a pre-med post bac program is the best way to go about finishing remaining prerequisites for medical school. I did not take any med school prerequisite classes at UCLA.

I was just notified I got accepted to SFSU pre-health post bac.

Will this help with enhancing my academic record and making me a more competitive medical school applicant? And does the fact that I finished a portion of my pre-med classes at a CC (before transferring) have any weight on how med school adcom will view my application? Does it make me less competitive?

Will taking a post bac at a university like SFSU make me look better? Or would it be better to take remaining pre-med courses at UCLA / UC Berkley extension?

Thank you!

I think you will be ok if:

  1. You get all As at SFSU for your prerequisites. Also it might be better if you take more higher level science classes and also get As.
  2. You get a high score in MCAT afterwards, think at least 80% or better.
  3. You have a good history of medical ECs and good LORs.

Apply broadly to most lower level MD schools and DO schools. Good luck.
