I've just been accepted into the Stanford class of 2011 (found out approximately an hour and a half ago) and in case anyone is interested, I have some stats for you:

Location: Chicago, IL

ACT: 32
SAT 1st time: 2030
SAT 2nd time: 2140

ECs:
Debate Team--4 years
Academic Decathlon--4 years
Jazz Band--2 years
President of National Honor Society--2 years
Varsity Cross Country--1.5 years

I also sent in an additional recommendation from a summer program I did at MIT. (MITES--Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science)

Other possible factors:
Black
Female
Low-income

^^Haha. About thirty people from our school applied to MIT this year and the black girl who did MITES was the only one who got in. It's rather strange since she's not even one of the better students among them.

ScrewedHopeful, it's interesting that you say that. It's definitely possible that Stanford would have looked at me in a different light if I was white, but I've looked at some accepted stats in the Stanford forum, and I've seen some equivalent SAT scores from white students. Plus, according to the information packet Stanford sent me a while ago, my scores were well within the middle 50% range for the majority of their class of 2010 matriculants. So I don't know; it would be cool if I could re-apply with a different race to see the outcome, though.

Isn't that a little...dampening, to say she got in because she's black? Take a second look at her SATs, ACT, and ECs...she's clearly above the national average. Now, I'm not saying race/circumstances had nothing to do with it, but the girl deserves more than that! She got into STANFORD for God's (or gods') sake!

regardless of your race you're still a very high achiever, and Stanford very likely still rejects hundreds of black kids each year regardless of AA conspiracy theories or whatnot. So f**k the naysayers and congratulations!

Well, without your race you certainly would've had a chance, but it didn't look like you had any big hooks. Probably being from a disadvantaged background would help you -- though keep in mind in your case (since you were low-income) it probably actually was a disadvantage, not just a "you got in because you're black" thing.

So that being said, congratulations! Time to party with copious amounts of donuts and cheesecake.

Congrats! Your qualifications are stellar and don't listen to the naysayers. Good to see a fellow Chicagoan headed for a stellar college (although for the life of me I can't imagine why you would want to leave the great city of Chicago or Illinois -- except perhaps for a great college, beautiful campus and pleasant weather year round; get ready to forget what winter is).

she's clearly below the stanford average though

Congratulations! You must feel so awesome right now =)
Isn't it such a big relief to have this humongous burden off your shoulders, lol... that's how I feel right now.
