I’m not sure that’s the correct way to look at it. I do know a few other engineering MS graduates at McKinsey and friends and they all happened to be ISyE which is closely related to management.

Anyway, you seem to have made your decision. Stanford is an excellent school but just be forewarned that having known several Stanford grads, they tell me that you’ll only ever hear about the successful ones from the outside and not the many people that go on to have average careers.

I applied to both Stanford and USC (for other grad programs) - but I was actually more excited about attending USC than Stanford… When I got the interview for USC, and still had not heard from Stanford - I considered how difficult it would be to turn down such a prestigious school if I got into both… But why? Because of a name? I decided a long time ago that I would choose a program based on the research, mentorship, and how well it matched my interests NOT based on the name of prestige (although some middleground is best!).

Congrats on the your decision to attend Stanford - it is refreshing to get up, move out of town, and start fresh - I am sure you will find a way to the top of your field if you have as much passion as you claim to.

Good Luck!
