My son's ACT was a 31 composite, but he took it freshman year. He's taking it for "real" in a couple of weeks. He'll also take the SAT in March. His PSAT was a 197 (69 math, 68 critical reasoning, 60 writing).

I take the ACT for the first time in February.

I took the ACT for the first time in December. I got a 30 composite, but want to bring up the math and science by a few points. I got a review book and am registered to take it again in February.

I have to wait until my Feb ACT scores come back to apply the Summer Seminar, because my PLAN and PSAT were not as high as they should be, and I am freaking out I will not get my scores in on time or there will be no more slots open. Can someone tell me how many slots are still open for the three sessions?! Thanks

Once you accept your selection for summer seminar, you can no longer see how many spots are open. Someone who has been selected but has not yet accepted will have to answer this.

I don't see how you can tell unless you're actually at the point of choosing your session. My son registered very early, and at that point (Jan 16), there were still a lot of slots left (around 250-270 in the different sessions). But now I don't see a way to get back into that. Once you accept and submit any registration forms, you can no longer access them. The only thing it will let me change is the resume, and his travel form (which we haven't submitted yet). You might want to post a new thread so anyone who has just been accepted looks when they sign up.

Personally, I'd go ahead and apply now and then send updated scores later. I may be wrong, but I haven't read anyone saying they were "rejected", only those that haven't heard yet. Since the deadline is 2/28, you're going to be really tight getting that application in after you wait for the scores. Emphasize everything else on your resume more, list your scores, and tell them that you're taking the ACT in Feb. My son didn't even have his PSAT scores when he applied, only his ACT scores from freshman year, without writing.

Edited to add: Sorry FalconGirl - I clicked the reply button before you replied answering this, then got distracted and didn't actually finish the reply for awhile!

Hey falcongirl would your ALO happen to be LTC Jeff Dyrhaug? That's who mine is; it would be wicked crazy if had the same ALO too.

Where on the application would I make a note of that I will be taking the ACT in Feb?
to marciemi

LTC Jeff Dyrhaug is not my ALO. The only place available for open response on the application is the resume, so you could put it there.

ditto what falcongirl said. You get a whole resume section, that you can update as needed. Under your Academic heading (there were a total of 5 I think including Academic Achievement, Athletic Achievement, Civic Involvement, Work/Job Experience & Leadership Positions) list the scores you have and when you plan to take the next test. When you get your scores, add them in there, but also fax/email them to your counselor (which it will give you at the conclusion of your application). As we made changes to my son's resume, we added in a 6th section titled "Changes/Updates" as he got final grades, PSAT scores, and thought of additional relevant things to add.

airfocrceacademy, don't get super worried about your scores. I had a 179 PSAT which really isn't all that great, but my counselor told it wasn't important ahh! I scored a 27 on my PLAN test though. Hope it helps you out. Just in case your scores were around mine you might want to go on ahead and send em in, unless you don't have a lot of extracurriculars then I'd wait.

thanks everyone, I bought a book(The Air Force Academy Candidate Book: How to Get In, How to Prepare, How to Survive" William L. Smallwood and Sue Ross) about getting into Academy so I'll wait until that arrives and see what it says about the SS.

Anybody have updates on how many slots are still available? How many slots per session are there?

I am attending session C!!!!

When I chose which was like 2 days ago, there were like 179 for C and a little more than 200 each for A and B. Good luck!

Hi drumsrock! My son will be attending that session also (s0cc3rizlife92 here on the boards). We just made his flight reservations yesterday, so he's all set! Welcome to the boards! Where are you from?

I dont know how you all are thinking about bringing up a 29 composite ACT and 1200 SAT. I wish i was that academically gifted to take it one time and get a 1200. Standardized tests are stressing me out at this point

Ya maybe I'll see him there. I live just north of Philadelphia. Is your son going to any other of the summer seminars??

Yeah, he was accepted for West Point's, but he has to have a form signed by his doctor and his staff said they wouldn't sign it without the doctor seeing him and the soonest I could get him in for was this Thursday (he's a sports medicine doctor so it takes forever to get in with him). So then we can mail in all the forms and hopefully he'll be going to session 2 there (June 6 - June 12). He just applied for Navy's summer seminar yesterday so if he does get in, it would be for session 1 (May 30 - June 4).

i just applied yesterday... i cannot stop looking at the status. I must check it like 5 times a day. Wow..I've never been like this hyped for anything except football. I'm worried about my PSAT scores though; I only got a 160 so ya. Hopefully my ACT scores will come in quick.

How long does it take for the Academy to review you and then decide?

Haha I am going to West Point's session 2 also. And hopefully Navy's first one is I get accepted. I am going to be missing the last few weeks of school, but I should be able to take my finals early.

airforceacademy7 I applied when it first opened and I found out 3 days ago, so how ever long that is.
