Accepted to UCLA - IGETC Question

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. Hopefully someone can help me with my issue and when I have more experience in the future I'll return the favor!

So I've been accepted to UCLA and they asked for my transcripts (which I sent out recently). The only issue is that, upon inspecting my classes, I found out I'm missing one class for IGETC! It's a Social Sciences class if that matters. I'm going in as a Philosophy major and have all my prereqs done and a 3.6 GPA, plus LOTS of employment history and current employment.

My question is: will they reject me now because of that one class even though it's not a prerequisite course? How important is IGETC certification in this instance if they've already accepted me? I'm starting to sweat bullets because getting my acceptance taken back would be worse than just being rejected in the first place!

Thanks for all of your time in reading and responding to me!

IGETC isn’t required, it just helps your chances of admission and serves as a guideline for what GE courses you should take. I know a few people who have been accepted into UCLA and even Cal without completing IGETC. If they already accepted you, they have no reason to revoke your admission unless you failed a class. You have nothing to worry about, congrats on UCLA!

That sounds like good news for me! The biggest concern I have though is that I legitimately thought I was going to be IGETC certified and so reflected that in my application by clicking “yes” when it asked if I will have IGETC done before transferring. I believe that may break my contract with them.

My CCC says on their website that I can get “partial certification” if I’m missing no more than two classes, is this worth doing?

It is something you should be concerned about. It doesn’t mean that they’ll auto-rescind you either though. Check to make sure again that you can’t meet IGETC. Even if the classes you were planning on using can’t be used, or you couldn’t get a certain class, maybe you overlooked some that will still meet it. If not, call them ASAP and let them know.

I know for sure that nothing will meet the requirements of that class. I had simply misread that section and took two courses in social sciences instead of three. I have a lot of other classes taken and way more than needed to transfer, but they don’t fit into social sciences.

I’m going to my CC in a little bit to talk to them about partial certification, then I plan on informing UCLA about all of this.

UCLA Doesn’t even require IGETC for admission so it doesn’t even matter. How can you get rescinded over something that isn’t even required. Don’t worry.
