I applied as Pre-pharmacy/undeclared and was accepted as an Undergraduate Studies major. If I am trying to get into pharmacy school, would it be a bad idea for me to attend UT as a UGS and then transfer to the College of Natural Sciences my sophomore year? Will it be hard for me to get into pre-pharm classes right away if I am in UGS?
Anyone else accepted as UGS? Are you still going to UT?

[University of Texas - College of Pharmacy - Pharm. D. Curriculum](http://www.utexas.edu/pharmacy/admissions/curriculum_ss.html)

I’m just a random student who was accepted as undeclared/Pre-Pharmacy. I was told in an info session that any professional school care more whether you took required courses and kept a high GPA.
IMO, you should call or mail the advisers about your questions. I just listed those links in case they could be of help.

Getting into Pharm doesn’t mean you have to be a pre-pharm major. You could be a Liberal Arts student who takes all of the prerequisites and have the same chances as the Pre-Pharm students.

To answer your question, being in UGS won’t hurt you in your pursuit of the prereqs. All majors require a core cirriculum with 9 hours of science, so you can take Chem 301 and 302 and Calculus your first year. After your year is up, you can transfer into any school you want.

Accepted in UGS, much less likely to go to UT now. Applied for petroleum engineering. Too much risk of not getting into the program later. My stats got me into other top engineering schools, so looking more closely at those now.

Thank you guys so much for the replies, it is really helpful! I think chem/biochem majors are pretty easy to transfer into (as compared to Engineering or Business) right? So I think I will still plan on attending UT in the UGS program.
Thanks again :)

I am OOS and understand the program is fairly new, but does anyone have any info re: % of transfers from Undergraduate studies into Chem. Eng?

same here, bummed. admitted to Purdue, GT, Illinois and A&M. probably stupid to try for Texas with US option.

I would recommend talking with an engineering advisor if you haven’t made a final decision and if finances are an issue (in/out of state).

Engineering internal transfer could have changed in the last couple of years. But my D was in undergraduate studies her freshman year (fall09) and she transferred into engineering after spring semester when she had the required hours and all met the math requirements. The biggest hurdle is keeping that gpa above a 3.5…really a 3.75…
Many students transfer out of engineering and slots are certainly available to those who are willing to work very hard.

But you can’t go wrong with engineering at a&m either!
