Accepted to Yale- should I even bother to take AP exams?

Hello guys, I am extremely fortunate to have been accepted to Yale SCEA. As the title suggests, I'm debating whether to take the AP Chem exam. My school is in the process of registering for the AP tests, so I need to make a decision asap. I'm in 5 AP classes right now. The workload is horrid, but I don't really mind the classes, except for AP Chem. My teacher is awful and refuses to teach us...I've never been so lost in a class before. We all are terribly underprepared for the AP Chem test in May. I understand that a 5 on your AP Chem may give you acceleration credit at Yale. But frankly, there is absolutely no way I'll get a 5, and even if by some miracle I do, I would not want to place out of the intro Chem class at Yale. The one thing that worries me is that back in November, when I applied to Yale, I put on my Common App that I intended to take all 5 of the exams. So would it look bad if they didn't receive my Chem score in July? And if I do decide to take Chem and score poorly on it, like a 1 or 2, would that affect my admission decision? Oh, also, it's not a financial issue because I can take all of my exams for free. Thoughts please?

Skip it. My D skipped one too for similar reasons. Her teacher was not happy but it was not worth it to her to spend time reviewing with everything else going on spring semester. Relax and focus on your other classes.

@musicmerit, thank you! but I put on my Common App that I planned to take the AP chem exam, so would I get in trouble for not taking it now…?

As far as I know, you will only have a problem if you fail classes or commit a crime. You were honest. You were planning to take the test. You changed your mind. I doubt they will even look for the test. You report the ones you want to use for acceleration. Those are the only ones they are going to be concerned about.

Congratulations on being accepted and don’t sweat the Chem AP test.

They’re not going to rescind your acceptance for not taking the AP exam, enjoy your sr year!

Agree. It’s highly unlikely that you’d want to accelerate anyway.

Don’t take it! If you learn the subject well enough, you can always try and place out of CHEM114/115 at the beginning of the Fall semester and take a semester course that counts as a whole year (or take freshman orgo). Many of my friends decided not to take any of the exams when AP season came around, and it all worked out!
And congrats on your acceptance!

I would skip it. Congratulations on being accepted!
