Hi,

I’m currently a freshman at UW-Seattle. I have been accepted into the honors program here and the foster school and CSOM as a transfer for my sophomore year. I think I’d like to get a PHD in business one day and eventually return the west coast if possible. I am wondering if transferring to BC makes sense because it is substantially more expensive. Also I am wondering about the sense of community at BC. I like UW, but it’s so big, it’s hard to feel like your part of a cohesive school. What about research opportunities at BC and career services. Also I am applying to Notre Dame for international econ and have been wait listed at claremont. PLEASE GIVE FEEDBACK! This decision is taking up wayy to much time. Thanks

college gpa: 3.97
extra curricular activities: won 2 case competitions, undergraduate law review, plus personal rec. clubs
ACT: 30
Subject tests: All I know is my best was an 800 on History and 600’s in Math and and English one.

thanks again! I have to decide by June 5th on BC

BC has a wonderful sense of community, and Boston has numerous internship opportunities, but whether that is worth 2x the cost, is your choice. If money is no object, I’d take the private school easily.

OTOH, for a biz major, you have to admit that the value prop offered by U-Dub is a really good deal instate.

Also note, that even a large Unis, the classes get much smaller as you move into upper division coursework.

Good luck.

Ok thanks! I was also wondering on whether or not grad schools will care much where I go?

negative. Both are top ~50 Unis, and will be perceived equally on an academic standpoint. What will standout is your undergrad research (for PhD programs). In general, the opportunities are somewhat greater at a smaller school, but U-Dub will provide all you need. You just may have to search for it a little longer.

(There are a lot of good personal reasons to pick BC – the Jesuit education, for example – but grad schools won’t much care.)

what about UW honors? Is that something that would provide better research opportunities and career opportunities in comparison to BC?
